[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi All,

I upgraded from 10.14.4 to 10.14.5. First run seemed to be quite good, but now after 2-3 days I'm noticing a few things (aside from the common purple lines on boot).

1) I lost iMessage and can't reconnect to it. I get an issue during authentication Update: Fixed by re-installing EmuVariable, which I removed following the old guide.
2) I couldn't wake up the Hackintosh from sleep that lasted approx 2 hours, needed to turn off via power switch
3) My About this Mac shows my Vega64 as "AMD RX Vega 64 8GB 8 GB", so double 8GB indicator

Anyone any ideas?
For item 2:
First, please try the Sleep/Wake suggestion from the build guide:

For item 3:
Are you using the Vega SSDT in your CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder? If so, try removing it. MacOS 10.14.5 has more robust support for Vega GPUs, so first thing for all Vega owners is to remove the Vega SSDT and any Fan/Power control kexts and Clover Injects.

Hi all, need some help please - fan problem.

I am having oscillating fan noise, woo woo sound - very annoying - it seems to be coming from the CPU but add the rea exhaust does make it worse - so I guess together they are doing this. I dont know why the fans are behaving like this.

I also cannot use programs like "macs fan control" - it cannot detect my fans.

Can anyone help me to solve these issues? thanks.

  • Are you referring to case fans, GPU fans, or CPU cooler fan(s)?
  • Which fans are you using?
  • Are they PWM fans (4 pins)?
  • Are they connected to a fab hub, and the fan hub is connected to one of the 4-pin PWM fan headers on the motherboard?
  • Are the fans securely mounted to the chassis? Do they have rubber mounts to reduce vibration?
  • Can you control fan speed in BIOS?

  • Yes it's good to contact G.Skill for troubleshooting advice.
  • If you're not currently on BIOS F6, you may want to upgrade.
  • Also enable X.M.P. Profile 1 from M.I.T. section of BIOS.
Spent some time on the phone with Gigabyte. Looks like it was just a bad board.. Got a refund from NE and picked up another Designare at Micro Center instead... The memory runs fine on the new board.

Just started to boot from my installer and I'm getting a message that I haven't found much info though. I've followed all Vanilla install guides to the letter... Trying to install High Sierra and get the following message immediately:

"This Version of Mac OS X is not supported on this platform!"

I get a "reason" number after, but google returns no results when I search for it.

I also followed a guide on Gigabyte BIOS settings for Hackintosh. Should have done everything correctly but several attempts returns the same message.

All you have to do is to install Clover to EFI partition on any USB drive, then mount the EFI partition on that disk, go to EFI > BOOT, rename BOOTX64.efi to BOOTX64.efi.clover for example, after then put the GRUB BOOTX64.efi file there.
Reboot and boot from that drive and you should see the shell immediately

Got it working, and successfully modified the CFG Lock. Was able to remove those 2 KernelPM patches after that in CC and everything is booting fine :).

You know what, I get the "This Version of Mac OS X is not supported on this platform!" error too when trying to boot my back up vanilla 10.14.4 install. I was having some issues with my previous vanilla install so I decided to start fresh and do the Unibeast build outlined in this guide again. I wonder if Unibeast modifies the clover bootloader in a way that vanilla and beast installs cannot coexist. I was able to boot up all my old vanilla installs before installing this Unibeast version on my main drive but now I can't boot up my vanilla carbon copy clones when I select the drives from the boot selector screen.

This is my first hack so I'm about as green as it gets... I haven't tried the Unibeast method yet, only a Vanilla installer since most of the resources I found seem to suggest Vanilla's a little more resilient. That said I can't say I fully understand the differences between the two yet since this is my first go... Anyway, think it might be worth giving Unibeast a shot?

To surmount the "This Version of Mac OS X is not supported on this platform!" issue try booting with -no_compat_check

Will give that a shot tomorrow afternoon.. *Fingers Crossed*

Is this a side effect of choosing a newer profile than my installer supports?
If so is there any reason I might or might not want to try and force a newer profile?

Also, I don't suppose there's any way to use Clover to install a compatibility update onto a bootable installer?
(i.e. My 10.13.6 installer image is from June 2018... Whereas 10.13 has had many updates with greater compatibility since last summer...)

EDIT: Thank you btw!

Profile ?
It is because the real Mac with your chosen SMBIOS was released with a later version of the OS than the one that you are attempting to install.

I don't understand the question.
