there is a known issue related to RF interference between USB3 and BT. I have had this issue with:
1--a NUC hackintosh whose internal BT was very laggy and juddery. I disabled it and now use a BT dongle attached via a 3-foot USB extension cable. initially I had plugged the dongle into the NUC but the BT signal strength between the NUC and my keyboard/mouse 8 feet away was insufficient to overcome the RF interference.
2--my Inspiron 5570 hackintosh. same laggy-ness. I disabled the internal BT and use a direct-connected dongle. my trackpad is right next to the laptop so the signal from the dongle is strong enough that I don't need to extend the dongle away from the computer.
3--and as I was finishing the setup of my Z390 yesterday I installed a Dell 1560 wifi/BT. at first I had the same issue with that BT. I went to the google machine and discovered an inexpensive RF shielding kit from OWC which I ordered.
I won't post the link but go to OWC's website and search for "Bluetooth module shielding kit".
(story 3 resolved itself when I realized I hadn't installed both antennas on the pci card. internal BT is working fine now and I will try the shielding kit on my NUC.)
Thanks a lot for the insights! I could go for a workaround - but the reason I went for this card was to get maximum BT support.
Right now I am thinking I have missed something basic. What do you mean both antennas where not installed? Perhaps this applies to me as well. I just screwed the four antennas on, not sure what else I could do with them.
