[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Alright... my bad... I did accidentally set an iMac SMBIOS.

So - what's the best way to change it? I'm assuming a reinstall? (I tried changing the clover options during the bootload but it seems that they don't stick. Also - if the drive wasn't an m.2 drive I would assume I could just easily mount the drive on my laptop and modify the EFI on it to show the right SMBIOS but I don't have a way to connect to the m.2 drive easily)
I recommend using MultiBeast as the easiest method and just selecting:
Customize > System Definitions > choose your system (like iMac18,3)
Build > Install
Reboot
MultiBeast will "Updates SMBIOS in /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/config.plist to identify your system as the chosen Mac model with a valid serial number."

So - if I boot off of my USB stick and then load the internal drive it will use the EFI from the USB stick right? And then I can use multibeast to fix the SMBIOS?

Never used MultiBeast, but yes: if you boot off of USB and select the internal drive it'll use the EFI from the USB.

Using MultiBeast is as easy as falling off a log.

Now I’m paranoid. Maybe I accidentally choose iMac8,1? Is there a way to check? (Because right now I can’t boot into Mac OS...). Or do I need to just reinstall again?!

Seriously. Thanks for all of the help. I feel like I’m close to getting it right.
You can always boot from the USB install drive, which still uses iMac14,2. Simply insert the USB stick and press F12 at BIOS splash screen and boot from the USB. Then select the normal "Boot macOS from Mojave".

This has the effect of loading all CLOVER settings (config.plist) from the EFI folder of the USB disk instead of the EFI folder of the Mojave disk.

Once the system boots up, you can mount the EFI partition of the Mojave SSD and review/modify your SMBIOS.

Yep - that's the plan once I get home tonight!

Hi everyone!

First of all thank you so much to CaseySJ for writing this extensive and very well explained guide! I built my first computer/hackintosh today, and was able to get it up and running just by following this guide :)

I'm still trying to fine tune some items, but wanted to check if anyone had an update to connecting their phones via thunderbolt. I found some discussion from earlier this month, but the search engine isn't cooperating with me today :(

Also is there an app for fan control anyone is using regularly? I want to minimize fan noise as much as possible.
Because macOS limits us to 15 logical USB ports, we decided not to activate the USB 2.0 logical ports on each of the two Thunderbolt connectors. We can connect USB 3.x devices to those Thunderbolt ports, but not USB 2.0 devices. Unfortunately, Apple iPhones (including iPhone X and iPhone XS) use the USB 2.0 protocol through the Lightning-to-USB-C cable! So we recommend connecting iPhones using Lightning-to-USB-Type-A cables.

Something weird happened to me recently. The OS doesn't recognize my mouse and keyboard. The BIOS is configured correctly and the mouse and keyboard do work on the BIOS screen. Once I start up the latest MAC OS X via Clover, it's simply stuck at the login screen as I can't input anything via keyboard or mouse...

I'm using a Thunderbolt 2 dock by OWC and so far, this setup has worked for me. I did update the BIOS firmware to F6, though, but I changed the settings immediately. Here are my drivers and kext files from the USB boot drive, which also doesn't recognize the mouse and keyboard once the installation screen is reached.

Hi thanks for the amazing guide.
Just to clarify, i think there is a mistake or confusion with the WiFi recommendation.

The module BCM94360CS2 has only two antenna connections.

The module BCM943602CS has three antenna connections.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PDN4H9E/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

The adapter works with both modules, but i wonder which one is better and which one do you have. It seems weird to have this 3rd antenna not doing anything.
Interesting -- I never noticed the difference in Mhf4 antenna connectors between 94360CS2 and 943602CS! I have the first one (BCM94360CS2) with two connectors. My PCIe x1 adapter has 3 antennas, but I use only 2. More recently I've switched to the Fenvi FV-T919 with...yes...four antennas. :)
