[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Yeah I've tried the flag, no luck. It seems like the black screen after sleep is supposed to be fixed by WhateverGreen, do you think the extra card or 3rd slot could be causing issues with it?

Ah, I see. How do you go about creating the SSDT? What program do you use?
Attached is the SSDT for RX580 in Slot 3. You'll also need to copy SSDT-DTPG.aml (included in Post #1).

  • Have you installed WhateverGreen and Lilu?
  • SSDTs are made and modified using MaciASL. You may grab the latest one from here.
  • The black screen after sleep is due to several factors, but the most important ones are (a) GPUs not configured properly and (b) to some extent USB ports not configured.
  • Are you using SMBIOS --> Macmini8,1 with platform ID 0x3E9B0007, or have you switched to a headless configuration?
  • Have you installed the Custom USB SSDT?

  1. Yep, I've upgraded to the latest version of both WhateverGreen and Lilu, still the same issue
  2. Awesome, thanks. Is there any guide that you recommend?
  3. Interesting, do note that the USBs do trigger the wake (as well as pressing the case's power button), it's just the monitor stays a constant black (but is receiving input)
  4. Yep, using SMBIOS --> Macmini8,1 with a Graphics --> ig-platform-id of 0x3E9B0007.
  5. Yep, I've got SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V3.aml in my ACPI/patched folder.
Thanks for the SSDT for the 3rd slot, I'll try it out now.

EDIT: Looks like the AMD card is showing up System Information as Slot-2 with the provided SSDT.

EDIT 2: Got the display working on sleep by following this guide, the Nvidia card was causing the problems and disabling the slot fixed it.

designare I want to know about WiFi cards that can be used on the motherboard of z390.
Is it possible to use BCM94360CD?

CaseySJ,

So I received my Z390 Designare from Germany (finally) and am getting close to the actual build. A bit of a delay as I only now realized my "Noctua NH-D15" is way too big for this board.. (a new Noctua NH-L9x65 arrives tomorrow)

Anyhow for better or for worse I'm going with kenntkim66's Config.plist (with my serial #'s) from post #801. Could you take a peek at his "Kernel & Kext Patches" page attached below and let me know if the underlined "Remove USB Port Limit" line is needed? I'm planning on using your usb ssdt so I'm thinking not.. Thoughts?

I also attached a pic of my "drivers64UEFI" folder. Any chance you could have a peek to see if I'm missing anything (or included anything I shouldn't) ? I'm aware I don't have "emuVariableUefi-64" in there but as I'm not changing my SMBIOS from my current build I don't think iMessage and Facetime will give me any grief, if so I'll add it back..

Thank you in advance for your help, I know I'm cutting a few corners on this build...

Best

It's pics of my drivers64UEFI, clover/kext and /L/E folder and current config.plist.......I guess you will like to see my folder if you use my config.plist
I use 2 monitors so I active UHD630 framebuffers as u see cloverconfigurator : Device > Properties
and UHD630 connect HDMI to Monitor and RX580 to other monitor.
And 1st GPU is IGPU. It make finalcut x work perfectly for me.

I wishh good luck to you

Platform ID should be 0x3E9B0007 if you would like to use the iGPU to connect to the display monitor. The real Apple Mac Mini 2018 uses the same value, and its iGPU device ID is 0x3E9B.

But if you use Final Cut Pro X, it's better to use Platform ID 0x3E920003 and SMBIOS iMacPro1,1. In this case the iGPU is used for compute tasks, but will not connect to a display monitor (i.e. "headless" configuration).

But I would strongly suggest following the build guide to get the basic system up and running. You can then make any needed changes to a different SMBIOS.
Thanks CaseySJ
now I'm following your guide and it is going better now, I used Mac mini SMBIOS as you recommended, I have side question, after finish installation I noticed that my 2 internal hdd which is formatted as NTFS I can't read on it only read , even I installed Tuxera ntfs software and still can't write on it, do you have any idea what can cause this issue, before I was able to write on my ntfs hdd , I try to change the connection of this 2 hdd to different connection on the motherboard and still the same, the other option I have now is to reformat my hdd to exfat but I loose all my data

Glad you solved the main problem.

The RX580-SLOT3 SSDT only defines the text "Slot-3" and attaches it to PCI0.PEG2.PEGP. In IORegistryExplorer you can check whether this path exists. You may have to set the following in BIOS in order for the system to define this PCI path:

Peripherals --> Initial Display Output --> PCI Slot 3

I use Paragon NTFS on my MacBook Air, but recently I deleted it because it seemed to crash the system frequently. But Paragon NTFS has a control panel in Preferences. It will show you all the NTFS disks and some status information.

According to Tuxera website, their NTFS solution is not available for MacOS:

"Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera brings high-performance support for storage media including USB, SD, eSD, eMMC, HDD, and SSD. Our software runs on Android, Linux, Chrome OS, Firefox OS, Tizen, QNX, Nucleus, Windows CE Embedded, VxWorks, and on many other proprietary RTOS deployments. Read more features in the specs sheet.
NOTE: These are the specs for our commercial-grade NTFS file system solution for device manufacturers and embedded automotive suppliers."

How are you using it on Mojave?

Thanks for replay, I use Tuxera ntfs since long time on my macboock pro and on my Hackintosh since long time without any issue, I can read and write on my internal NTFS formatted hdd and even on my external usb hdd formatted as NTFS

If you have a Mac version of Tuxera, see if there is any Control Panel (Preferences page) or log message that can troubleshoot the problem. You can also contact Tuxera technical support for help in identifying the source of the problem.
