How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

I can only say the W7000 worked perfectly for me on the X299 aside from being slower. The RX580 did not. YMMV

Sure.. I did not argue about your helpful comments concerning the W7000. The opposite is the case. And moreover, we fully agree that the RX 580 is a no-go with SMBIOS iMacPro1,1 and Skylake-X/X299.

Bios settings align with your post (see UEFI screenshots.zip). Have not ran it under windows yet - as for now I was not sure if the process differs from a add-on card installed (with the THB_C cable a.s.o). From your post it seems like this was necessary for the card to be recognized in BIOS/UEFI.
I did use the file you posted here.

When researching beforehand, i asked for experience on this very new board in the hardware channel.
This is what @applemacosxGOD posted when using the v2 version of the here described method.

Graphics
Learned the nvidia lesson. The RX 580 is ordered for a try (local store - can just return it, if not). Wouldnt it be possible to change the SMBIOS to something supported if errors occur? What are the consequences?
If you're right after all (I guess you are) the VEGA or the W7000 seem to be the only options left.

Edit: Sorry for the maybe stupid questions (like why use specific smbios / consequences) - i try to read as much as possible and google myself around this forum but there is just a lot of people saying lots of things and i try to figure out - what it all means.

I will let you now, how this progresses.

Please verify TB and USB-C onboard TTR functionality under windows and report back with results. If everything works as expected we continue discussing about the correct macOS implementation.

You will abandon SMBIOS iMacPro1,1 optimized for Skylake-X/X299 for running a 200$ graphics card? I will not answer on the SMBIOS question as the x299 threads are crowded with related questions and detailed answers. Not again, please!

One finds indeed a lot of rubbish on internet. You should believe in this guide, because it works. Many others will confirm this statement. But you also have to follow respective advises. And I am also willing to help in case if issues.

Thus, let’s check TB and USB-C functionality under windows. I know what I am talking about and why I am recommending this as a next step.

Your findings with the Prime Deluxe II are of particular interest as I will never buy this motherboard for myself because of several reasons. However, I would like to also support it within my guide and software applications and I am willing to do all related work necessary.

Ok, so windows it is :). As soon as i have the time i will do that and post here how it works out.

Googled more on the SMBIOS topic and will read further up on that. It is quite hard to find a detailed (unbiased) explanation how this works technically. But from all i've read - x299 and this is the one :). So there seems to be no way around the two graphics you suggested.

@kgp @macs_forever Thanks for all the hints and helps. For somebody new all those forums are overwhelming. Just want to technically follow whats going on - thats why all the questions :)
For @applemacosxGOD TB seems to work on deluxe II - he has it already running - so it should be possible.

But does USB-C also work in his case?

Exactly.. no xhci implementation. Same hardware issue like in your case. He just adopted ACPI path and ACPI within the SSDT replacements, like I also did for the Deluxe II and which must be done anyway for any different mainboard and slot or build-in configuration. He just did not follow mandatory advices at first attempts. Subsequently he did apparently and therefore the TB ACPI table is now properly implemented, but still there is no USB-C ACPI table implementation. USB-C also won’t work such in his case.

Ok understood. Then, as said, i will ping here, as soon as the windows step is done and now focus on the vega issue. Damn they are expensive

You do not need a different EFI-Folder for 10.13.2. After completing the actual EFI-Folder distribution by following my guidelines, your system will be fully vanilla and should work with any macOS build.
Okay I will go through the whole process again. But I have done exactly what you instructed. Can you please look at the screenshot and tell me why it would be hanging at that error every time? Thanks @kgp you rock!

Better upload your EFI-Folder. I can have a look tomorrow. Now here it is definitely time to sleep...;)
