[Guide] Dell XPS 9560 Mojave VirtualSMC, I2C Trackpad, Clover UEFI Hotpatch

Thanks for everyone's feedback and willingness to work on problems. I'm sorry I may have posted the guide prematurely without more thorough testing but honestly thought it was pretty good. Trackpad is so stinkin sexy I had to share

@dmitry_matora sorry I do not have USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter and I don't have a 1440p monitor. Just 1080p and 4K TV but our laptops only have HDMI 1.4 so useless in that regards. One thing you could try is removing the new frame buffer patching method in device properties in clover config and reverting to KNNSpeed's kextstopatch for kabylake frame buffer patch. All the guides all say use new method for WEG, his patch for fixing ports worked just fine but I switched over b/c that's what all the guides say. This may be easy fix. Please keep us up to date.

@fabiofabio thanks for the FileVault 2 testing, noted in guide and thanks for the dart=0 comment. When I first switched laptop would time out and cause long boots/shutdowns for the first boot but after dart=0, injecting works fine boots normal and bluetooth working.

Guide Updated
11/1 Added new Clover folder XPS9560-Clover v2.zip with updated kexts and drivers. Added Bluetooth pairing fix plus install options, extra trackpad option, FileVault 2 currently being tested by @fabiofabio his post here #20. Adjusted Optional sensors with link and removed attached SMCProcessor from post. Edit:1440p HiDPI

@blazinsmokey is your XPS sleeping correctly? I hadn't tested that before but right now it simply turns off the screen, I'm wondering if it is related to Filevault or the changes in Bluetooth injection; if it is still working on your machine I will try to investigate tomorrow.

Yes laptop still sleeps correctly. I think you can tell when the power button light goes off. Haven't done an overnight sleep test yet but can do it tonight. I noticed you installed the Repo version to L/E, I didn't. Disable hibernate with the script again after updating to .1? That could be it too. Disable Wake for WiFi network access and Allow Bluetooth devices to wake computer?

I don't have a 1440p monitor
Well, you can't use 1440p HiDPI on 1440p monitor, you need at least 4K for it.

Just 1080p and 4K TV but our laptops only have HDMI 1.4 so useless in that regards
Well, as I was saying I have 4K@60Hz working on High Sierra over HDMI 1.4 port
If you have 4K TV I would suggest you to test 1440p HiDPI mode on it, once you try it, life will never be the same :)
Just have to use High Sierra and a sequence of resolution switching to get there
  1. set 1080p@60Hz
  2. then set 1080p HiDPI@30Hz
  3. Now you can then pick anything like
    • 2160p@60Hz
    • or 1080p HiDPI@60Hz
    • or 1440p HiDPI@60Hz
I even got keyboard shortcuts in SwitchResX to quickly go over those resolutions with 1,2,3 keys (+Cmd+Alt+Ctrl)

I'm not sure it's true 60Hz, and I would settle for 1440p HiDPI@30Hz if that would be an option, since HD 630 can't draw 60fps at 5120x2880 anyway.
I'm thinking about getting eGPU enclosure (Akitio Node Lite?) and putting 1050 Ti I already have on the shelf into it.
But I've already spent too much time setting this thing up + eGPUs barely work on Mac + TB3 barely works on XPS 9560, so I might just switch to MacBook 32Gb and forget this nightmare instead.

So you are in fact trying to use 1440p HiDPI on a 4K monitor via HDMI.

Nope, HDMI 1.4 spec can't output 4K@60Hz. 30Hz yes, 60Hz no.

Maybe clarity in language and definition issue here. Anyways revert to KNNSpeeds frame buffer patch or try https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/adding-using-hidpi-custom-resolutions.133254/ or like you said get a MacBook.

I know specs don't allow it, I'm just saying hardware says it's delivering.
I can't verify if it's a true 60fps, but I can clearly see if it's a HiDPI or not.
1440p@30Hz HiDPI is not an option, and I can't add it as a custom resolution, so even if this 60Hz is fake, if that's the only easy way to get 1440p HiDPI, I'm happy.

I have these resolutions available in Mojave, issue is when I try them I get no signal, and unlike High Sierra, resolution sequence trick doesn't work

Software says its delivering. Big difference. There is no way to get 4K 60Hz output on the HDMI port but believe whatever makes you happy.

@fabiofabio Got a chance to check the laptop today +10 hour sleep with 3% battery usage. This is pretty good.

I worked all day long on it without any issue, unfortunately still not capable of putting it to sleep.

An interesting thing is that when I try to put it to sleep using the menu -> Sleep, most services are suspended and the screen goes blank, however the keyboard stays lit even after minutes; in this state, tapping the keyboard does not "awake" the machine from whatever status it's in, the only way to awake it is by pressing the power button quickly twice .

On the other hand, pressing the power button during a normal session does not display the usual dialog with the buttons to sleep, shutdown, logout etc. and I remember this was working fine after the initial install.

Given I'm not an expert myself, I will simply reinstall on another drive during the weekend and check at what point of the setup sleep stops working to pinpoint the cause, then maybe post diagnostics and ask the resident experts.

I assume you turned off all the things mentioned in my previous post and probably already the BIOS wake options. Try clearing your NVRAM at Clover bootscreen and see if that helps. If you moved over from another setup of files maybe something is a miss, attach your problem reporting files and maybe I can help.
