pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Hi guys,
i come back with other news about my noises on Vega 56.
i bought a other one (3rd !) but this time from Gigabyte Brand.
EXACTLY THE SAME DAMN NOISE !!
I found on youtube someone has identically the same issue :

enjoy.

That are VRMs you hear I think. Maybe another power supply can help but I think its tied to the GPU in this case.

I guess I found my help cry not found resonance to anyone ... no one knows how to unlock the bios on the vega boards 56, I better say chip boards amd ?... a suggestion, a link, something ... I'm a bit depressing about your passivity ... anyway the subject seems much more important than the mouse disappeared do not know whose screen or the keyboard is black instead of the white ...: (... awaiting an answer, at least but not like "why did you look to rewrite the bios? did not work with the one in the factory default ? or you ate at the bottom and now you sit and cry" ... anyway thanks for the support

I don't know how to unlock the BIOS. I've never tried.

It won't reinstall everything. Just run the installer and you will be updated.

I think the last time I did a clean install was around 2006 when I got my first Mac Pro.

Hi @pastrychef ,

I've been voraciously consuming knowledge and I just got running on High Sierra 10.13.6 and it's great. I'm looking to go into Mojave beta and one thing I don't understand is how to do it while keeping all my programs, files, setup, etc. I can probably do a clean install from USB installer, but it seems like you have it figured out already.

1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've been updating since 2006 and you were able to keep your mac setup this whole time? How did you do that? Did you just run the installer app from the mac app store? Then what is your process to ensure your clover drivers, kexts, clover config.plist (which does the acpi-dsdt-ssdt patches by my understanding) are all updated and correct for this new OS. EDIT: I found this High Sierra update guide. I'm thinking I can follow this.

2. Then another question about the installer you posted, installinstallmacos.py. This may be a basic question, but what is that? It says it is:

"A tool to download the parts for an Install macOS app from Apple's
softwareupdate servers and install a functioning Install macOS app onto an
empty disk image"

So I'm guessing it is doing the same thing as downloading the macOS version from the App Store and where you end up with a 5GB ish .app file. Correct? Apologies for ignorance I've just never seen a python script being used to install.

Thanks in advance for you time. Sorry for all the questions.

Edit: removed some additions

Hi!

1. Yes, I've been using the basic Mac OS X installation since I got my first Mac Pro from around 2006 and just kept on updating with each new OS X release. Whenever I've upgraded/switched computers, I've just transplanted or cloned the hard drive/SSD. While I have done clean installs, they were just to make sure that it would work. I continue to use the macOS installation that dates back to 2006.

Yes, whenever there's been a macOS update, I just get the update from App Store (or combo update from apple.com).

I always make sure to update Clover and kexts before doing the macOS updates. Usually, config.plist doesn't need updating but if it does, I also update that before doing the macOS update. On rare occasions, it's necessary to update the BIOS version. To do that, just copy your Serial, Board Serial, and UUID. Then click on the "up/down arrow" button and select your system definition. Then paste your Serial, Board Serial, and UUID back.

2. That's a tool created by vit9696 to help users get the special build of macOS (17G2112) that was included with the latest MacBook Pros. That particular build has better Coffee Lake support and I wanted to test it. Usually, we don't need that tool. In your case, you won't need it for updating to the Mojave public beta.

If you have already updated Clover and kexts, you should not have a problem updating to the Mojave public beta. Just sign up for the program and install.

Hey thanks for the reply. I figured I could have just copied your r4.4 EFI folder, but I wanted to compare all the differences between ours so I can learn. Most of the differences I could find the reasoning after searching the threads here. I still have some questions if you don't mind.

1a. First is in regards to the Devices > Properties section of config.plist. I know the AAPL entry comes from the frame buffer patching thread. It's a bit confusing since I'm not familiar with how frame buffers work in this Hackintosh context. So I'm wondering if I need to do frame buffer patching for Mojave with my setup?

2. Could you elaborate or point me to why you have the PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1f,0x3) entry in Devices > Properties? I think I saw you mention it is audio which also makes sense since you didn't explicitly have an Audio under Devices.

3. In the KextsToPatch section. Is having a kext there that is disabled, the same as not having it? Also, this section has a lot of duplicate USB-related patches. Are they all needed? Are they also needed in addition to creating the ssdt for usbinjectall and the usbinjectall.kext file?

1a. The stuff in Devices > Properties is for injecting IGPU and Audio. Yes, I recommend using them and enabling IGPU in BIOS.

2. That's the ACPI device path of the devices. The frame buffer patching thread has a full explanation of how that works.

3. Yes, disabling is same as not having it.

If you look at the 15 port limit patches, they are all for different versions of macOS. I included them so that the EFI folder would be compatible with all those versions of macOS. As you may have guessed, it's much easier to just use SSDT for USB. Having to run around and look for a working 15 port limit patch with each new macOS version is a pain in the ass. Plus, sleep should not be expected to work correctly when using these patches. But there are still some users who are too lazy to use the proper USB fix...

Once you have implemented SSDT for USB, you can disable/delete all those 15 port limit patches.

Reporting update to Mojave Public Beta 9 yesterday -> all OK with EFI 4.4 minus the previously mentioned issues with portrait mode that I can fix on the first boot through Display in System Preferences or by just going to sleep - not thinking it is a big issue for now but very weird - the monitor in portrait mode is connected from DVI to DVI on the 580.

pffffff....I'm lost in sky....maybe someone see this crying of despair and can help me or guides me in the direction of "winning"

Hi,

Could you specify the model of your MB?
Usually there is a 3 pin connector on your MB you just need to manually short cut two of them.

The location should in your MB manual.
Thanks!
