A possible explanation: I see reports here that the latest (.156) driver no longer works with HDMI for some users. (see #317) I have two displays, both connected to my GeForce 970 over HDMI. I didn't try moving them to DisplayPort.

Or, I wonder if it's something about the new driver needing NVRAM, and I'm still booting with OsxAptioFix2Drv-64.efi, not OsxAptioFix3Drv-64.efi. (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/macos-10-13-3-update.243852/page-10#post-1676933)

I just ran a quick test and it doesn't seem to be either of those, at least not in my case. I'm already running OsxAptioFix3Drv-64.efi, so I went and installed 387.10.10.10.25.156. Rebooted without my HDMI monitor (just 1 DVI + 1 DisplayPort), bad performance was pretty noticeable straight away. Then repeated with just the one DisplayPort display and same thing - although it certainly becomes less obvious the less pixels you're pushing, but it becomes apparent when you start displaying some WebGL content and then try minimise windows etc.

Benajmin - we're talking different problems here. You're running Skylake (i7 6700), so you're hitting the slowdown problem. I'm on Sandy Bridge, so the slowdown doesn't (shouldn't) hit me, but instead I got black displays on HDMI with the latest driver.

Whoops! Makes sense.

Just to let you know, I get a black display irrespective of drivers unless I enable "NvidiaSingle" in Clover Configurator. Probably won't help, but I may as well mention it just in case.

Mainboard GA-Z87X-UD3H + Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB. Everything worked fine until 10.13.3
Despite had read and tried almost all the advices in this thread, after update to 10.13.3, my hack shows only the mouse cursor every 5-8 seconds on a black screen, while the loading wheel stil wirling.
I tried many flags in clover (on/off, in combination and alone) with the same result.
I tried also to install previous versions of nvidia web drivers, without success.
The most weird thing is about the Quadro 4000, who before the update worked fine also without nvidia webdriver, but now the only way to access to high sierra is booting with -x.
Any idea? Thanks :)

You could try removing these, single user might be a better time when graphics aren't running, otherwise use sudo
Code:
rm /Users/*/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver*
rm /var/db/displaypolicyd/*
rm /var/db/.com.apple.iokit.graphics

Thanks for the hints, Vulgo.
Sadly nothing changes, the thing reamins the same...

@bkendig Hmm, that doesn't quite sound right. The latest driver shouldn't make your system unbootable, just slow.

However, 378.10.10.10.25.106 is a newer driver that should work, and won't slow down your system. My nvidia-update script (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/nvidia-update-simple-way-to-install-nvidia-web-drivers.244987) will take care of installing and patching this automatically if you can't be bothered messing around.
Worked like a charm... Thank you!

irad, did your system ever slow down again? I find ince you install different drives its ok for awhile but over time it slows down again.

Hi folks,

I'm having a really hard time getting 10.13.3 to work with full acceleration.
  • iMac17,1
  • Z170
  • Skylake 6700k
  • 980 Ti
  • 2x 4k monitors, DP
Using web driver 387..156, I generally can't get to desktop. SSH works, screen sharing does not. Enabling multi-GPU in BIOS and booting WITH iGPU plugged in to one of the monitors reliably gets me working desktop on the iGPU monitor. Used to get me working desktop on the 980 Ti but seems not to anymore. Lilu, etc don't seem to work (and I don't think I need them anyway, as I manually edited Info.plist in AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext).

Using web driver 378..106 (thanks to @vulgo's script) reliably gets me to the desktop but without full graphics acceleration (driver loading)—very laggy, 33MB VRAM, graphics card not fully recognized, only one monitor, etc. nvda_drv=1 seems to be recognized (checked with nvram -p), but NvidiaWeb in config.plist does not seem to have effect.

I've looked through many threads here but can't seem to find a solution that works for me. Any thoughts?

Bumping this. Again, I'm getting to the desktop with web driver 378..106 installed but apparently not loading properly. WebDriver pref pane shows no GPU installed.
  • Enabling CSM did not help; only made it so the system booted (and got to desktop) in 768p mode, instead of 1080p HiDPI (which I am getting otherwise, despite lack of acceleration).
  • Updated to Clover 4411, no joy. I don't believe I need EmuVariable, as I'm using a Maximus VIII Gene with a non-broken-NVRAM BIOS version, but I added it and it didn't help. "Use web driver" remains checked regardless.
  • Using OsxAptioFix3.
@vulgo, @P1LGRIM, does anything about my setup stand out as being wrong or set improperly? Any suggestions?

Since you are using native NVRAM, try enabling nvda_drv=1.
