Just following up on this. It's strange. I tested the IGPU on my 8700k and it worked fairly easily with the standard injections, acceleration and all. But no acceleration on the i3. It has a different device ID (3e91 vs 3e92) than than the 8700k. Anyway, I tried everything and had no luck.

For time being I'm just going to pause on this build and see if peopel figure things out, or wait for the i5 8400 to come in stock and I might trade up. Insights still welcome!

3E92 doesn't work either thats why you need to fake to a ID represented in AppleIntelKBLGraphicsFB.kext.

ig-platform-id 0x59120000
IntelGFX 0x59128086

Hi Macboy, thanks a lot for your guide and infos. I'm actually trying to set up a hack with the same board/cpu as yours and I'm having a little hard time. Would you please kindly accept to share your EFI clover folder so I can try it with your config.

Thanks

Gabriel

Here you go. If you want to use internal GPU only for display use ig-platform-id 0x59120000 instead of connector-less 0x59120003

Yes, I understand this. My point is this:

If you enter ig-platform-id/intelgfx as you describe, the 3E92 WILL have acceleration, and work as expected. At least for the 8700k (I have an i5-8400 in the mail, will test soon). You, myself, and others have confirmed working graphics using an 8700k (device ID 3e92).

On the other hand, with the i3-8100, which has device ID 3E91, acceleration does not work with this method. You'll get the correct display info, recognized ram, etc. But no graphics acceleration. I can confirm this from an i3-8100 build I made.

I'm not sure why this is. My working hypothesis is some difference between the 3E91/3E92 chips and Apple's drivers. I'll have another datapoint when I install my 8400, also device ID 3E92.

People who better understand how this works could add more.

EDIT: Theory partially confirmed. Acceleration works on i5-8400!

NVM, I figured out, Now this machine is working perfect!! (For some reason/ It should go to id 0x5912000 not 2003)

Thank you!!
Buy, I have the same exact board as you. Is it possible to get your clover folder to see if I can get my 8700K running.
Thanks!
Mike

What have you done (installation wise) so far?

I tried Macboys Clover setup and I get stopped at certain points in the loading. I have a 10.3.1 disk set up but for an old mobo Z68. And a USB install with the latest (macboys) clover. I get stopped at PCI config. Maybe because i have 2x970gtx in my new rig? Should I take one out? Also stopped at "Waiting on <dict ID="0" IO Provider" Ive done slide=0 npci=0x3000 Inject USB, Fix Ownership, Drop OEM SSDt, Start with Niv disabled, not sure as nothing is working to either start from usb or the hd w 10.3.1

Did you use UniBeast for High Sierra (HS) to create the USB installation thumb drive? (I'm having a hard time reading your post because of your lack of proper punctuation, spelling and grammar.)

Once you had HS installed, did you use MultiBeast for HS? I ask these questions because having installed HS on all my systems for testing, I have not had any problems getting my systems successfully running (Legacy and UEFI BIOS, and AMD and Nvidia graphics cards).

Thank you for the great guide! I'm going through the build myself now with Aorus Gaming WIFI board. Most of it works already, I'm writing from the system, but little details are still not in place. One comment on this --

To have a correct CPU model in About my mac, i changed the "Unknown CPU" identifier in the SystemInfo.strings according to this guide.
http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/01/13/how-to-modify-about-this-mac-hackintosh/
Systeminfo.strings is a binary one on High Sierra. I used TextWrangler to edit it. One can't really use an editor of their choice (vi would be mine) :)

Cheers!

Thanks for the guide. I copied your build (except I have Ballistix sport 8GB RAM and a GTX 770) and everything was smooth.

The only issue is I can't get NVRAM to work at all, which means I can't use iMessage or the nvidia web drivers. I've tried many things, including:
  • Enabling NvidiaWeb on Clover Config
  • Install EmuVariable and the RC Scripts
  • Reinstall the nvidia drivers
Any ideas on what to try next?

EDIT: It looks like I could have two Clovers installed. Installing EmuVariableUEFI through Clover Configurator on my main device (not its EFI partition –weird, I know) I managed to get everything running.
Thanks again for testing this and offering this wonderful guide <3 I love you.

Yes I used UniBeast for High Sierra. For the hard drive I did use MultiBeast for HS but it was for Legacy Z68 mobo. Wouldn't it be OK if I started up with the USB and selected the hard drive? Then rerun MultiBeast for HS Uefi?

Am I supposed to start up initially with the on-board Intel Video display or can I use the Nvidia 970? The only other thing would be that I have 2 x 970 Gigabyte cards in my new machine. Maybe take one out? Sorry for my lazy punctuation!
Mike
