DO NOT INSTALL if you use nvidia web drivers. nvidia web drivers incompatible. You will go into a kernel panic loop from nvidia drivers i they are present after installing this update. Even if you disable them in options. Thank god I had a full cloned backup, so I can now uninstall them completely to make make volume bootable again.

If your Hacintosh goes into a kernel panic loop, try my solution to this:
  1. Pull the NVIDIA GTX card from your mainboard.
  2. Boot you Hacintosh with built-in (Intel) video. Check Inject Intel on Clover Options before booting into macOS High Sierra is necessary.
  3. Update the NVIDIA Web Driver with the latest version, then shut down and power-off your Hackintosh.
  4. Insert the NVIDIA GTX card back.
  5. Turn on the Hackintosh. It should work.

Yeah that is a valid work around. Heck some boards you don't even need to pull card. my board has an on/off switch on each PCI slot for convenience/troubleshooting.

But also having backups on the regular is important too, especially with an OS with an experimental file system :)

Guys,Guys,Guys this Supplemental Update has been doing my head in. Finally got to install 17A405 successfully.
When trying to install error message:- macOs couldn't be installed on your computer. The path /System/Installation/Packages/OsInstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged.
The issue is SIP status. Mine was disabled. Check via Terminal csrutil status. Check message#164 how to disable SIP via Clover Boot Manager.
I Unchecked "Allow untested kexts" and Checked "Allow Apple Internal".
I first uninstalled nvidia drivers then download Supplemental update via Apple store and installed it. Once the installation comes up to the Clover boot Manager Uncheck "Allow untested kexts" and Check "Allow Apple Internal". and Pick MacOs Install.
Hope this helps others.

I've installed update as is, if then failed to boot.
I've recovered system from time machine.
Next I've uninstalled nvidia web driver, leaving cuda driver installed.
Then installed os update once again, booted into installer and installed just fine.
Once back online, I've installed new Nvidia driver for 17A405, rebooted and I'm all cooking.
Through the whole time i left my kexts as they were, worked for me just fine.

noob question: how do I install this update?
EDIT: am on 10.13, using NVIDIA web drivers

All good now! I had been trying to disable the nvidia web driver, but hadn't tried uninstalling it. Uninstalled it from the nvidia driver manager control panel, rebooted, ran the high sierra supplemental update, updated successfully, installed the updated nvidia web driver, and am back to 100% functional. Thanks!!

Thank you for your guide gsruff
I was getting stuck at a boot loop too. I followed these instructions an it works.
So you all of you with nvidia hardware have to uninstall nvidia drivers first before the suplementary update was started.
