I had problems - not like these, but problems with booting and installing - when I mixed the steps. Below is how I magaged to make it work. Of course you won't need the Web Drivers. I hope this helps, because this is how easy it should be with this machine.

success! i took it for face value, mixing the steps perhaps? switching to hdmi displayport? and actually logging into icloud. redid everything from the penddrive (used a new one!), got it all installing, multibeast seems to have run perfect this time around too and im good to go. not sure what was different but we're all set!

to investigate later, getting the onboard sound working! i love that there is a little speaker in the case and i hope that i can get that to work!!

also need to figure out why when 5 harddrives are installed only 3 show up in disk util. if i remove 1 of the 5, they all show up. bizzaro!

**with all that, THANKS EVERYONE FOR HELP!!!!!!!! really without even some advice i wouldnt have tried other things, this is a good build, i feel like its as stable as an imac and im shocked at the cost! so big thanks to trs96 for the deal, and pastrychef for hanging out all the time for everyone! also thanks karoli9 for the latest advice !!

Audio will work with VoodooHDA, at least it worked for the two of us through HDMI :D

im hoping that displayport hd4000 passes audio then!! but that wont allow the internal speaker to work, maybe its a lost cause tho.

anyone that needs an explanation of the 8300 cmt machine sata ports. found this in some data sheet.. gonna try to get 5 drives to boot somehow.

I've bought a few 8200's / 8300's that had one PCI-e back panel space filled with an eSata input. It was plugged into that 5th sata4 connector. Never tried it but i'm sure it will work at least for storage purposes. Which 5 operating systems do you want to boot ?

hdmi audio did nothing for me? is it supposed to show up in system pref -> sound?

I did this to get sound after installing.

I used "-f" flag in Clover and booted. Still had no sound, so I ran "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /" in Terminal and rebooted.

And the most important if you want to know your machine (HP Elite 8300 series service and maintenance guide): http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c03612798-1.pdf

sweet! thanks.

i ended up reading more and went down this route: http://www.osx86.net/files/file/480-voodoohda-282-r86-3264bit-installer-vt2021-51/

installed that voodoohda, then like it says rebuilt my kexts and was a complete nightmare. although after first boot i had sound coming out the internal speaker!! but i suddenly lost all my sata drives except the boot drive, weird i thought, so i ran multibeast again with pastry chef settings thinking that would fix it and im not sure if it did or not, but after just 4 power downs my drives were back. no clue what happened. beware i guess?
