Maybe you could try disconnecting your video card and using the onboard graphics? If your system becomes stable, then you probably isolated the problem. If you try this, the video is a bit glitchy, but it will be a temporary solution until you get the replacement.

I am posting here because Stork also had the GTX 980Ti on his build, wondering if he might experience the same problem (looks like he does not). I suspected my issue was related to the EVGA GTX980 Ti. I read online and there are quite a few issue with the GTX 980Ti overheating (the GPU fan by default does not kick in until it reach 60oC). I had similar experience with my first build in which I used mobo GA Z170x UD 5TH.

Now my computer booted up normally, so it's not software issue. Earlier today when I ran Heaven Unigene, it crashed and the GPU was hot. GPU temp was about 70oC before it crashed. Just contacted EVGA for a replacement and will post back here when I have the new card.

My computer is plugged into a 1200V UPS, so power should not be an issue.

Nope. My graphics card is a EVGA 980 (not the Ti version).

I have a 980Ti and have not experienced this issue, 70c is not very high - mine goes up even higher when gaming. sounds like your power supply is not delivering enough power, you said you have a 1200w UPS? a UPS is a battery backup your computer plugs into, not the power supply of the computer and is irrelevant to the power issue. try using a different power supply, if still an issue maybe your card.

Are you overseas and using some kind of inverter / voltage converter?

Thank you, AlphaFox. My PSU is Corsair AX860i, which I think would be more than sufficient to power my system. The computer is plugged in to the UPS just to prevent surge or power outrage. I live in the US. I contacted EVGA for a replacement card, so let's see if that's the GPU issue.

Try bypassing the UPS. try a different power supply while you wait for your new card, even though 860w should be plenty, there could be something wrong with it.
Have you done a stress test on your cpu / memory to rule them out?

Hi all,
I have a question reg. the boot phase until the GPU kicks in.
I followed Storks Hero build and so far everything is working (thx a lot to the forum) on my G5 mod.

During the booting, the Apple logo is kind of streched. I'm not using the integrated Intel Graphics. When the booting is over and my NVIDIA 970 takes over, the screen resolution is back to normal.
Is there a missing clover flag, that the boot Apple logo is not distorted?

Best regards
Michael

Hello,

I have got the same behaviour on my bluid except that the resolution change occurs during the booting progression bar progress.

To make the logo look correct and not stretched:
In BIOS:
Boot > Boot logo display > auto
CMS > Disabled

In Clover, under Boot section, set the resolution to your monitor resolution.

After this you can also boot into Windows and use the ASUS BIOS Flasher in the app suite they have, download the BIOS manually from the website and then go to 'my flash' (I think), select the BIOS, once it selects it there should be an icon in lower right called my logo or something like that. you can click that and pick an Apple boot logo from google images and flash it so you can have an Apple during the initial post and windows boot.

If you do this, the initial boot resolution should match your monitor resolution during initial post, in clover, and during macOS / Windows booting.

Hi AlphaFox,

Thx a lot for your help. I'll give it a try...

Best
