HI Everyone
I am very new to all this :)
This thread really interest me.Very informative . thanks everybody
I have one straight question regarding Skylake board vs Haswell board : thunderbolt
I am building a music production system .(thunderbolt UAD system and Thunderbolt harddrive)

My goal : Thunderbolt to work.(i hope :)):mrgreen:
I understand it is NOT the easiest and i ve read a LOT about it.(i know it wont be probably 100% successfull.)
i have 2 choices (different way) regarding the processor
I7-4790K //Z97X-UD7-TH
I7-6700K //Z170X-UD5 TH

In the case of the 6700K i then need a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter right ? (startech)
Would that be a “one more problem” that could occur ?
would i have more success going with haswell in that exact subject ?(thunderbolt 2 straight i mean)

canyondust and trotel
seems to have success with the Startech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2
thanks for your advice and your GREAT help !!

*Edit 8/14/16* Success! Replaced StarTech Thunderbolt Adapter.

Well, "success" to me will be not having to boot to Windows every time I start my system to do the dance of changing BIOS to "one time saved key" remove/add my UA Thunderbolt devices and back to "legacy" the boot OS X.

So far, I haven't found a fix with a bit more experimentation the last few days. I tried some of the other recommended Thunderbolt settings (see JMFDCV's settings in SteelSams' thread here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/s...on-ga-z87x-ud5-th-and-other-tb-boards.119275/) but none had any different effect.

The only thing working for me is the switching of the BIOS to "one time saved key" to Windows and back to Legacy for OS X (see above).

Just for kicks, I've ordered another Startech TB3 to TB1/2 adapter in case that's the culprit (doubt it).

It's hard for me to give you advice on the Z97X-UD7-TH vs Z170X-UD5 TH boards, but the Z97X-UD7-TH is hard to find now.

Once I get OS X to see my UA Apollo devices, all is good and stable ;)

Hi Trotel
could i ask you your setup ?
how much memory and what type ?
did you overclock ?
thaks for the info :)
i am about to order the different component...

PW8888: my setup is:
Display: Samsung S34E790C
Case: Nanoxia Deep Silence 3
Motherboard: Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel Z170 ATX
Memory: Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 970
Processor: Intel i7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2 80+ PLATINUM, 650W ECO
WiFi: TP-LINK N900
HDDs: 2x Samsung EVO 850 SSDs (OS X, Windows 10), 2 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter: StarTech TBT3TBTADAP
Audio Interface: Universal Audio Apollo 8 + Satellite Quad (Thunderbolt)
System Definition: iMac17,1 (had to apply AGDPFix due to NVidia card)

No overclocking. I don't want my fans running any louder in the studio than required. System is plenty fast (for now). Geekbench 3 score below.

@zipb I get proper shutdown and actually don't want sleep either (it's disabled in settings). I'm not going to wipe this build, but I may put it on the back burner for a while - just don't have the time for hacking, like I used to. The ROI for my time is starting to dwindle. Audio is important for me because I require music to get work done and I white noise apps at sleep-time to drown out rude neighbors.
I happen to have EVGA GTX950. Not sure if that helps you. How's the Intel native HD treating you?
Thanks for your feedback.
Im running on the same MOBO and CPU as you are, did you always get a proper shutdown? Cause Im not able to shutdown or restart atm.

Is your Ethernet working properly? My network speed is always very slow, it always uses 10 baseT/UTP instead 1000baseT and I dont't know how to fix this.

Hello guys,

Thanks for everything you've done and post on this forum, it helped me sooo much building my first Hackintosh.

I followed that guide 4 times :
First install i changed the macpro3 to a macpro6 = black screen, can't fix it
Second fresh install, i mess around with SwitchResX = black screen, can't fix it
Third fresh install, El Capitan can't boot after i installed Paragon NTFS, stuck on apple loading screen, can't fix it

Fourth fresh install after 2 weeks with a working Hackintosh and now black screen with nvda_drv=1 :(
I have a 980Ti. i installed the web drivers. Reboot. Apply AGDPFix.app. Reboot. Boot with boot flag nvda_drv=1. Black Screen.
In "about my mac", the 980Ti is recognized. But i still get a 1024x1024 resolution on my Ultrawide 4K monitor. After my third install everything was working fine...

Can someone help me with this issue ?

Thanks !

Hello,

Does the StarTech TBT3TBTADAP TH3->TH2 adapter work for attaching Thunderbolt peripherals? (caldigit t4, caldigit t2).. What else are folks using to connect their TB2 peripherals?

Many Thanks (trying to learn enough to pull the trigger on a parts list)
Paul

HI PaulKent ! It works perfectly. I've tested Apogee Symphony, UA Apollo, Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter, Hard Drives, etc. All working. The only Drawback is that Hard Drives are not Hot Pluggable.
Hope it helps. Cheers!
