Yes you do get bonus points, well I liked your post. Get a couple of 28" 4K monitors if you can, I'd like one.

You may get full resolution but I'd check in About This Mac for QE/CI. There seems to better compatibility using the correct adapters with discreet cards, but no way would anyone recommend using a VGA connection with OS X in this current day.

Alright, maybe someday I can convince my wife that these monitors are "not working" anymore.

How do I check QE/CI?

I appreciate all your help.

How do I check QE/CI?
You can check your IOReg's and try and run graphics demanding tasks. In About This Mac check that your graphics are displayed correctly and with correct amount of memory.
You don't have QE/CI on your DP>VGA as shown below in your IOReg compared to your HDMI connection.
Left is VGA and right is HDMI - See GFX0 >

Thanks for testing and confirming guys. Glad both your monitors are working with a little workaround.
Now that both monitors are working, I have sleep/wake issues.
My NUC goes to sleep, but I'm unable to wake it. Only solution is to hard reboot.
Could this "problem 4/Method 2 fix" have something to do with this ?

Sleep has been broken since initial HD530 support in 10.11.4. I've not been able to wake it up in either release of 10.11.4 or .5 It did work without QE/CI. Its not got anything to do with the fix, you can reverse method 2 and test for yourself. I spent a while yesterday testing sleep/wake with no notable results.
There is a link to a discussion on HD530 wake/sleep in post#1 of this thread. Best to post Sleep issues there :

It worked perfectly before I applied the fix. So I assume some causality here...

Reverse it, set <none> to <Config2>. If sleep worked perfectly for you, you can make the decision of either dual monitors or sleep. If might be different on the NUC, but my desktop doesn't wake, only when using the GTX970.

Ok for now its working the other way around, hopefully with the next major OS X update we'll see further added support for Intel HD5XX graphics. Thanks again for testing.

Hey I was wondering if the new update broke your muti monitor setup? I can't hotswap anymore at the desktop

It did break multi-monitor but can be resolved, see post#150.

Update: I think I may have found the problem for those of you that can't enable a second monitor using HD530.
Since the recent release of 10.11.5, when I updated I lost the ability to hot plug my second monitor at the desktop. The only difference on my system is, before I was using the Nvidia GTX970 and to use this with an iMac17,1 system definition I had to disable Apple's Graphics Device policy. This was disabled when testing HD530/dual monitor in 10.11.4 and was unaware it affected HD530.

Using HD530 with an iMac17,1 limits you to one boot display and no second monitor unless you remove Apple Graphics Device policy. HD530 is restricted too as is the Nvidia cards with this system definition. Now I've disabled Apples graphics display policy in 10.11.5 hot plugging my second monitor is working.

If anyone wants to test/confirm my theory go ahead and apply the fix in Problem 4/Method 2 here : Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems Restart required.
Alternatively use shilohh's app at the bottom of Post#1 here: Black Screen with MacPro 6,1 or iMac 15 or iMac 17 System Definition Restart required.
Yep worked for me by using shilohh's app! Thanks again !

Can you make a copy of IOReg with both screens connected and working. [Guide] How to Make a Copy of IOReg | tonymacx86.com IOregistry Explorer App is at the bottom of Post#1. Could you also upload your config.plist, before you do remove serial number and custom RtVariables edits if you've done them.
