Direct Update to OS X El Capitan Using Clover

Wow, It worked really well. I started using clover to install Yosemite. Where everything works. Even FaceTime. I used my Yosemite clover EFI partition settings and used also my cofig.plist with the code changed for the RtVariable.

I think is better to use clover for the whole installation. Because you can change any settings in the EFI partition. In the beginning might be difficult but if you follow Tonymacx86's Guide How to Install OS X Yosemite using Clover, it will be ok. Pays off later.

But I have a question: After successful El Capitan installation, should I change back the RtVariable or leave it as is? Because this manages the system protection. In Yosemite was

<key>RtVariables</key>
<dict>
<key>MLB</key>
<string>C02140302D5DMT31M</string>
<key>ROM</key>
<string>6c41ae807e30</string>
</dict>

Another question is:
Is the EFI partition susceptible to hacking, because is a FAT format?

Thank you so much :thumbup:
I'd leave the two SIP variables as is, otherwise you'll be changing them for every update. Also leave your MLB & ROM the same if your SysDef is the same in El Capitan as it was in Yosemite.

Spent about 4 hours trying to direct update with these solutions in this thread as well as on the El Capitan bug solution list mega thread. Couldn't fix my spinning beachball issue. I'm planning to install on a seperate partition so I can boot both Yosemite and El Capitan.

Hi Stork,
I follow this instruction but it stuck in boot in El Capitan. What am I missing ?. Thanks.

I got boot error:

Can anyone make an elaborated explanation how to and where to install clover? I can see a partition named efi when i type "diskutil list" on terminal but i can't mount it with efi mounter or manually!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:. After encountering with this problem i decided to make a clean installation. But my mouse works at boot screen but keyboard doesn't work. And when i boot from installation stick it was coming to "welcome" but because my keyboard and mouse was not working at that point i wasn't able to go forward. Then i downloaded DSDT for my motherboard (its Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 rev 1.0) and copied it to somewhere in stick to clover folder i think so since nothing works im having only stop sign. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I finally followed the directions as stated and I have to admit this install with clover is way better than chameleon/chimera ever was. Only thing is I had to use the kext from my 10.10 install instead of the ones tonymac86 put up and oh yeah for my music people Kontakt 5 and UVI plugins are not supported by El Capitain at the moment.

Confirmed direct update using Clover.

Added FakeSMC kext and Ethernet kext to EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.11 folder.
Added RT Variables.

Ran the update.

On reboot, selected Boot OS X Install From... and finished the update process.

Ran Toleda's ALC1150 patch to get audio working.

This was on my z97x-UD5H build.
I have exact bult but i could not boot into El Capitan. it get stuck at the spinning ball, I wonder what i am doing wrong ?.

For what it's worth, I also have a GA-Z9X-UD5H build with the i7 processor (GTX760 Graphics card), and I couldn't get past the spinning beach ball until I deleted all folders in EFI/clover/kexts except EFI/clover/kexts/other and put FAKESMC into the 'other' folder.

However, once I managed to install El Capitan, I had a whole headache of multiple troubles, including inability to get audio working, random app crashes, and overall instability. I gave up and went back to my fully functional Yosemite system.

Thankfully, I had everything backed up, so it wasn't a huge pain, but I still wish I knew exactly what I'd done wrong. I suspect I had a few incompatible kexts hanging out in S/L/E but I haven't had time to troubleshoot.
