First, thank you for having this thread!
I have this mobo but with its graphic, so no add on.
Prior the upgrade to 10.10.3, I repair permission, the upgrade goes well but no sound of course, then install ALC889 driver via Multibeast 7.3.
After boot I get kernel panic. Booting with -v, it stops at the AppleHDACodecGeneric. Booting with -x mode at the same point, it shuts completely down.
I have restored it to 10.10.2 three or four times until now, the upgrade to 10.10.3 goes OK but always get kernel panic after sound driver update as per info in this thread. Now I have a backup to 10.10.3 too but without sound.
I am exhausted, what should I do please?

Hi, and your welcome.. this thread is made to help anyone and everyone.. :D Firstly remove the applehda kext completely then run the permission repair app form my main thread and try using multibeast 6.1 audio kext and see if that fixes your issue .. i have also noticed issues with the 10.10.3 audio kext personally sometimes after sleep for me audio doesnt work and if i reset the kext.. sometimes it completely doesnt show up in the settings and sound option.. however I have found one solution which can be cheap and expensive and u never ever need to use an audio kext ever again.. unless u want hdmi audio get usb ie SOUND BLASTER OMNI SURROUND 5.1 or logitech z305 sound bar.. there are many other options.. I personally bought the z305 for $20 refurbished been using it since 10.6 works perfect.. but try removing ur kext repairing permission and re install an older kext and report back.. your not the only one with audio issues..

Thank you for your reply.

When you say to use the sound ALC889 from Multibeast 6.1, is it actually the "MultiBeast - Mavericks 6.5.1"?
For Yosemite specific there is only 7.3.0

MultiBeast - Mavericks 6.1.0
Here is the link to it

Go to finder —>then Go on top —>Select computer —>Now choose your yosemite drive
then System—>Library—>Extensions
manually find applehda.kext and delete it
then download kext utility which I’ve attached to this thread and run that. Now you can install the DSDT Free audio from 6.1 multibeast and select it for ALC 889 and reboot and make sure u have audio playback device selected from the settings that should fix all your issues

Thank you very much for the support! I finally could make it work because of your guide. Now I have sound! :)

Thanks a bunch for this post! I was able to get a working system on the first try.

Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
Intel Core i7-2600
EVGA GTX 660Ti

About a year ago, I tried and failed to update my system to OS X 10.9 Mavericks with several different install methods. I had just about given up, but yesterday I decided to give OS X 10.10 Yosemite a try. I updated my v1.3 motherboard to U1c UEFI Bios from U1b, and then did an update to my existing and very stable install of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Everything seems to be working fine and fast. I did not need to do the sound modifications, as I am using an external amp fed by Toslink optical, USB or USB through a USB to S/PDIF converter.

Note in the attached image, that Memory is listed as 16 GB 0 MHz RAM. This is a known bug in Chimera 4.1, and does not seem to have any effect on performance. See this post on the subject:

upgraded 2 things today:

Nvidia gtx 970. Wouldn't boot (past EFI bios screen). Had to put old card in, go to bios, choose Legacy PCI boot and not EFI and all was well for getting past that. Had to follow advice from post #138 on this thread to get it up and working again. Not a big deal:

Also got 10.10.4 running. Only had to install the combo installer, and re-installed the alc889 driver from multibeast along with the audio efi helper. Easy peasey!

10.10.4 Works fine on Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 [Downloaded direct via Appstore] I use clover now it installed directly no missing kexts
