Yosemite Freezing at Boot

I tried your recommendation, but the same message pops up saying the it has encountered an error, pausing 5 seconds, then boots fine. On another note, my rig cannot shut down properly now.

I tried your recommendation, but the same message pops up saying the it has encountered an error, pausing 5 seconds, then boots fine. On another note, my rig cannot shut down properly now.

Start the Terminal application, and copy and paste the following:

sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64

Press enter
Enter your admin password, press enter
Close the terminal window.
Open Disk Utility application
Select your startup disk
Click Repair Permissions
Reboot.

Ok something doesn't seem right.. still getting the error

After doing this my computer doesn't boot without using - x - f. I get a cancel sign at boot up like a do not enter sign. And it just freezes there and I have to reboot and boot with - f - x. Any idea how to remedy this?
