new imacs today include GT750/755M graphics... i would assume that means we can expect support for 750 series in next general OSX release?

Sorry to disappoint, but these are the 'M' variants which are Kepler, not Maxwell.

I imagine Apple will move to Maxwell at some point since the focus on them has been more towards power and thermal efficiency. I dont think it would be enough for them to release a refresh based on that alone though.

for sure, im just kind of dumbstruck that a company would release GPUs with the same number based off different architectures.

There are a couple of the 8xx mobile chips which are Maxwell; I think 850M and 860M, not yet used by Apple though.

no no, what i more meant was releasing two cards called 750 with different architectures. i liken it somewhat to a car dealer selling two versions of the same new car, except one has last year's engine in it.

Just to add to your confusion a little more, you can also get both Kepler and Maxwell variants of the 850M too.
