I'll have to try that later. I'm pretty happy with the GPU lowered to 1400 in both my Vegas. I guess I don't need the best it can do. I think I lowered voltage to 1000

Yes, I have it set at 1010v with core clock set at 1590 and HBM at 920. Performance improved dramatically.

Undervolting Vegas is not nerfing, it's improving.

Maybe that explains why I am happier?

Hey guys I'm failing miserably at loading @pastrychef's VGTab. I'm on a Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 w/ a reference (blower) Sapphire Vega 64 and fan is going berserk! I generating the VegaTab_64.kext using the VGTab util, setting Idle to 700 and Target to 4900. Problem is, it doesn't seem to be loading! I'm using KextBeast to install it into /L/E. When I try to load it manually with kextutil it eventually says "/Library/Extensions/VegaTab_64.kext successfully loaded (or already loaded)", but it cannot be found with kextstat (I'm looking for com.lihaoyun6.customVegaTab).

Not sure what to do, I am not clear on the other route (DSDT, editing /S/L/E/AMD10000Controller.kext, which I'd rather not do). Why is this not loading for me, what am I doing wrong?

Have you tried installing the VGTab kext in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ instead? That's the only place I've ever installed it and never had a problem.

I have not but I will shortly -- just using Clover Configurator, right? I do wonder why it won't load from /L/E and also not when loading it manually (w/o any obvious failure message). Does it need to load early in the boot process? BTW this is a fresh install directly to Mojave on a freshly formatted disk.

Just move (not copy) the VGTab.kext file from /Library/Extensions/ to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/.

In your config.plist, set Inject kexts to yes.

Thanks for your insight on the Vega cards. Several questions as this is new to me:
  • Did you do this in VGTab or by flashing the card's BIOS?
  • Which P states do your numbers apply to?
  • Does undervolting help lower idle/light-use temperatures or only those temperatures from when the card is stressed?

I did it all in VGTab. As far as I know, the VBIOS can't be modified.

All done on the last P state only.

During idle/light use, I have my fan set at 800rpm and temperatures are around 43C. I can't hear the fan when it's running this slow.

Please be aware that I replaced the stock thermal compound on the GPU die with liquid metal so YMMV.

Something strange when I read all your posts with Vega. I have a Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64 and I never had a pb with fans or temperature. Only the wrong GPU Die Temp stuck at 127°C. Everything is normal and my fans stop when the temperature of the card is 35°C (Something like that). Mojave and iMacPro SMBIOS for me. No VGTab. Only Lilu and Whatevergreen.

My only pb is the low boot screen resolution but it's not really a pb.
