Don't really need external icons patch only needed if you have Hotplug enabled in the BIOS. Leave change 15 port limit to 20 in XHCI kext (9-series) & AppleUSBXHCIPCI in config until youve personalised a SSDT for USB. Recommend changing XHCI to enabled to route USB 2 through XHCI. Reboot with the work you've done. Attach ioreg and Clover folder removing themes.
 
Had to set HXCI to Auto, on Enabled USB didn't work.
Ok, rebooted and a fresh ioreg:

I suppose USB is more work, I'll need windows (luckily I have) to match ports with their numbers or something like that?

Nope not at all. You can use ioreg with a USB 3 hub as it mounts as a USB 2 hub which is easier.
