USB 3.0 PCIe Cards that work OOB in El Cap

Just tested my Samsung 840 EVO, using an Inateck Hard-drive enclosure (UASP supported), hooked up to an Inateck KT4006 PCI-E card (connected to a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD4H motherboard).

Blackmagic Disk Speed Test reported the read speed as ~350MB/s & write as around 150MB/s. A bit concerned about the low write speeds, but overall happy with the Inateck add-in card.

Can anyone explain to me how I can connect these 20 pin cards when all I have are 36 pin pci e slots. I was looking at the Inatek KT-4006 that many have reported success with.

Thanks.

@BDOG1979 - Not sure about pins, but PCI-E cards come in x1, x2, x4, x8 or x16 flavours. Your GA-Z87-UD4H motherboard has 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 speed which would be perfect for the KT4006 USB PCI-E board.

The KT4006 board is a PCI-E x1 Design and you can install any PCI Express expansion card in any PCI Express slot. For example, you can install an x1 expansion card in a x16 slot despite the physical size difference; it doesn’t need to be installed in an x1 slot.

Although your motherboard also has 3 x PCI Express x1 slots which would work equally well with the card (though I'm not sure if it would be bandwidth limited in these slots). Anyway, hope I understood your question and sorry for any inaccuracies.

I ordered the 4 port of this long time ago, for a MP 1,1. Never could get it to work.

With El Cap, it works on my hackintosh. Its older version Inatek KT-4004 (not 4006).

Same here. Just installed El Cap and same card works out of the box.

Works OOB.

Matt
I bought the same model number (PME-2U) from Orico on eBay.
It is advertised as having FL1100 but contains FL1009.

It does NOT work for me with El Capitan (but does work with Mavericks & Yosemirte).
I tried the board on my Z77X board (as a trial).

Every second, I get this in the system.log:

And as such, the system is not usable with all that spam going and no USB devices are detected.

Are you sure your board contains the FL1100 chip ?
I ask because on that Amazon link, the description states the board contains FL1009.

Could you post your IOREG so I can compare what your system thinks your card is compared to mine ?

Currently I can't even reach the installer because of the USB issue on my motherboard. So by getting one of these Inateck USB3 cards, I should be able to boot from USB and install El Capitan right? Basically I am about to give up on motherboard USB and see if any PCI based USB boards will help me install ElCap.

Not likely. Unless the Inateck card has a BIOS extension firmware built-in, the motherboard is not going to "see" that card and if it cannot see the card, it is not going to see the USB boot stick.

You should always be able to boot off a usb stick with modern motherboards. Check your BIOS settings for USB ports.

Another successful, OOB install of the FL1100 chipset card-- Inateck KT4006. In an X58 system.

The one issue I have is that USB 3-- because of its known interference I think-- causes my bluetooth Magic Mouse to be laggy/jittery, which ranges from annoying to unusable in certain situations. This is the case even though my Apple/Broadcom Wifi/BT combo card occupies the top 1x PCI slot and the KT4006 occupies the bottom x16 slot (and I'm only using the internal header to get front-case USB3 ports).

Anyone ever successfully shield a USB3 card and header cable to prevent this interference? This is pretty annoying.
