So I've had an awesome stable system running on 10.6.6 for the past four years as my audio production rig and it's been great. I run Logic and Ableton live aand built this so I'd have a powerful audio production machine. It has delivered - thanks to this community!

Now I'm faced with a dilemma. Dropbox just stopped supporting any Snow Leopard versions earlier than 10.6.8 so that means Dropbox integration is now broken. I use this a lot for work and drobox is essential (I pay for the pro plan).

So with many reports of 10.6.8 upgrades breaking systems with my hardware, do I risk it or skip to a new version? I have lots of 3rd party vst plugins so I'm hesitant to skip beyond Snow Leopard.

Any good guides on upgrading to 10.6.8 with similar hardware and how the issues were overcome?

To update to 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 on a Sandy Bridge system like yours you need https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/updatehelper.37/

Download Update Helper and the 10.6.8 Update (combo) and follow the directions on the Update Helper download page.

Oh I didn't know about that. Thanks for the quick response Going Bald... I will try that and see!

-Ok I assume I still need to run Multibeast 3.3 again after installing the 10.6.8 Update and prior to the final restart. Is that right? I'm using NullCPUManager and the SleepEnabler.kext too.

Updating you usually should not need to run MultiBeast at all except for audio if using a patched AppleHDA.kext.

Hi Going Bald, I'm just about to go ahead with this when I noticed you refer to my system as a SandyBridge system. I show it as an 1156 socket (not 1155) which I believe is Lynnfield.... Is Update Helper still the way to go for this?

You should have no problems updating just running the update combo. From what I recall the Lynnfield worked as well as the Westmeres did. Just in case, I would clone the drive, create a drive image or other good backup/restore plan before proceeding.

Hmm ok, so don't bother with Update Helper then?

Ok so I created a bootable clone vi ccc and rerunning multibeast (v 3.3).
I restarted off that working clone and then ran the 10.6.8 combo update.

After running the combo update I restarted but got a KP (see the attached pic). -I then tried booting from my iBoot disk v 2.6.3 but can't get past the grey apple screen...

Ideas? Think that reference to kext.sleepEnabler is causing the problem?
