Yeah I totally agree with you.
It isn't a huge difference anyway. Obviously, everyone wants the speed, but the price to performance ratio is not there yet. Ha, ha, I feel like I got ripped off buying a 256MB drive for $180, but... I don't know. I'm keeping it because I notice the seconds saved here and there.
I just happened to pick up an ssd, thinking I'd probably return it anyway, but I'd at least try it.
After a week I felt the difference and while my perception of value hasn't changed, I'm just going to keep it. I still wouldn't say that SSD prices are anywhere near reasonable, but you can get a 128GB drive from last gen which is still very fast for around $70. Pair that with your 3 1/2TB and you haven't spent too much more money.
I also like having my install drive different from my data. If for any reason I want to install I don't have to move everything to a separate drive, just a few hundred MB of documents, which takes a second, then reinstall.
imagine what people who bought into 1st and second gen SSD are thinking about these prices, "oh they are so reasonable!"
500GB for under half a grand!
