Nothing compares to an SSD, It's a must for any modern PC.

OK,

I agree with you now.
My first SSD was an OCZ Vertex 4 and yes it was faster, but I didn't think that much of it.

Tried again with a Samsung 830 and after using it for three days I can tell you I don't want to go back to HDD for my main drive.

I agree that once you start using SSDs there is no turning back. I have not moved to SATA 3 SSDs yet since all of mine are SATA 2 and serve me right. The amount of time saved with the SSDs is considerable specially with the new motherboards that have the quick start feature. I agree that the price is high but they are coming down. So my answer is yes!!!!! All the way.

How much more speed can I look to get out of it? My PC already boots under 15 Seconds. Will it be that much faster?

Its weird, because it isn't really a big deal at all

but, when you start using it for a few days you notice that things just open a tiny fraction faster, sometimes much faster, but overall I don't see that SSD are a good value. It is just that for people who are on the computer a lot you can discern the difference in the reaction time of the computer.

I'm impatient, I guess.

I vote "not to SSD".. but I feel that the quote (and title) should end with a "yet".

The price to capacity ratio isn't there yet.

I'm willing to take the performance hit of a mechanical drive simply because capacity/price ratio is great these days.

That'll change once the SSD reaches a more reasonable price point (which is obviously differs between people).

...3-1/2 TB that didn't break the bank is where it's at for me.

Yeah I totally agree with you.
It isn't a huge difference anyway. Obviously, everyone wants the speed, but the price to performance ratio is not there yet. Ha, ha, I feel like I got ripped off buying a 256MB drive for $180, but... I don't know. I'm keeping it because I notice the seconds saved here and there.

I just happened to pick up an ssd, thinking I'd probably return it anyway, but I'd at least try it.

After a week I felt the difference and while my perception of value hasn't changed, I'm just going to keep it. I still wouldn't say that SSD prices are anywhere near reasonable, but you can get a 128GB drive from last gen which is still very fast for around $70. Pair that with your 3 1/2TB and you haven't spent too much more money.

I also like having my install drive different from my data. If for any reason I want to install I don't have to move everything to a separate drive, just a few hundred MB of documents, which takes a second, then reinstall.

imagine what people who bought into 1st and second gen SSD are thinking about these prices, "oh they are so reasonable!"
500GB for under half a grand!

 :headbang:

Repair permissions on your SSD and compare it to the Time, Disk Utility needs to repair permissions on a HDD, or clone your SSD with CCC onto another SSD...i can tell you, i never wanna miss my SSD's ;)

That would be a solution but I'll just wait till something that's at least 500 gigs or more becomes affordable (for me).

I'm triple-booting Linux, OS X and Win7.. boot times for all three are good or at least I'm not walking away for a drink because it's not quick enough :beachball: .

With that said - I will not say there's no room for improvement.. that'll be true when boot/load times are instant.

Like anything else the benefits of an SSD all come down to how you use it. For me, I noticed a huge difference in performance compared to traditional hard drives and have zero intention of ever using an HDD for my boot drive again.
