Hi, I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 TH -- but do I really care if it has Thunderbolt? I'm confused about Thunderbolt because I'm reading that it uses USB-C ports. Does that mean that this board really going to provide different ports? Or do I need it period if I want to use Thunderbolt (which I'm not even sure I care about -- what would your advice be?)? Thanks a lot

Thunderbolt.3 and USB-C is the same. Ma must have a adaptarer / dongle.

I run that motherboard in my Hackingtosh. But USB-C outputs won´t work! = /

People have figured out how to make Thunderbolt work on that board (see instructions here), but if you don't need it right now you may be better off buying a cheaper board without TB and then getting an add-in board, like Gigabyte's offering (which as far as I know is still not available in North America) at some point in the future. If you go that route, just make sure you get a board that the supports the GC-Alpine Ridge card.
