So my dad has an iMac that's the late 2008 model I think (it's the white model made right before the aluminum's came out), and it's getting a little old for him in my opinion, cause he always wants to be on the latest and greatest. So I thought about building him a Hackintosh, but without it being an All-In-One it just doesn't have that iMac feel, i think he'll be looking for.

So, I found some hardware and just wanted to know if they would work by chance?

First is the motherboard there are 2 models of this kind of motherboard:

The GA-B75TN
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128588

The GA-H77TN
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128587

I know there are DSDT's for the H77-WiFi models so I would think that the H77TN might be compatible.

Then there's the AIO Case:

CTL M780
http://ctl.net/ctl-mitac-7-series-24-inch-class-l5-bare-bones-all-in-one-m780/

So of course it'd be running an Ivy Bridge, which I'm hoping will be supported by Apple for a while, and it'd probably be just an i5 in it, and ya, just wanted some input.

Thanks!

Here is TonyMac's build using that motherboard:

A build using that board is here:

The barebones looks as if it would be compatible on the surface - however more detail would be needed to make a more informed decision.

So it seems that maybe just making him a Small Form Factor Build, and then just getting him a 24" Display?

Thanks Adrian for the response! I may just go that route, because I'm fed up with Apple not letting you update certain machines past a certain update because they are too old!

I responded to your other post first and thought you were looking at a complete all in one from another manufacturer that was designed and built like an iMac.

You have many different options open to you. One of the great things about building your own is that it is very bespoke and can be built with the end user in mind.

I appreciate you looking at both threads! The only barebone AIO that I can actually find to purchase that meets my needs is this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/F86F-ECS-G2...0797609855?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item58a94e677f

Problem is, is it's Thin Mini-ITX, which I've never tried in a Hackintosh before, but I know Gigabyte makes one so it might be compatible?

Thoughts on that AIO?

Thanks again for the insight!

I would ask this question over on this forum:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/others/

It might be good to get some insight from some of the case modders. Some have used Mini-ITX so should be able to give some feedback on what might be possible.
