Testing Thread: GeForce GTX 660

...and anyway this thread is for the GTX 660 which is a completely different card and chipset from the GTX 660Ti. Comments relating to the Ti posted here may just confuse people.

I suggest NOT to use nvidia drivers from nvidia website.

Instead use this : http://www.tonymacx86.com/287-apple-issues-special-os-x-10-8-2-update-new-macs.html

This new update is tricky to install, but it has NATIVE nvidia drivers which works perfectly with GTX660 (NO slow boot !)

To use the update :
- download it from apple website
- modify you smbios.plist with these values before launching the update

<key>SMfamily</key>
<string>Macmini</string>
<key>SMproductname</key>
<string>Macmini6,2</string>
<key>SMbiosdate</key>
<string>10/25/2012</string>
<key>SMbiosversion</key>
<string>MM62.88Z.006C.B05.0802291410</string>

- Launch the update
- Verify you have GraphicsEnabler to NO in your org.chameleon.Boot.plist
- shutdown
- install Geforce GTX660
- reboot
- restore your favorite smbios, and use Multibeast to restore audio
- warning : TRIM (and perhaps other things) may not work anymore. (for me it's just TRIM.. waiting for the next Multibeast !)

I followed that way
Everything is working properly (I think)
But I could not find a link to download the version from Apple, so I downloaded from here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/download/16544/

P.S

Anyone who cares for the TRIM I managed to fix it using Chameleon SSD Optimizer software
Download link (free): http://chameleon.alessandroboschini.it/index.php
Excellent TRIM running

If your HD6870 is so much better, why are you still using the 660Ti? Just put the HD6870 back in.

Just sell my 2 6870 to upgrade my hackintosh because i saw in the fully compatibility list of GPU the "gtx 660ti".............

Also like i said before this NV card eat less power , generate less heat in the case.. and in the windows ( games ) runs very fine .

Pdt.. can you test cinebench open GL and share your results ?

Tested my recent build (basically Slugnet's Video Editor 'Golden Build' minus the SSD IIRC) using an EVGA GeForce 660 Ti 2 GB card.

FPS 64.7
Scores 1630
Min 39.1
Max 141.5

Settings
Render: OpenGL

Textures: high

All enabled except Tesselation.

I followed the method i listed above, but I have a problem - NO HDMI AUDIO connection
Any solution? Thank you
I have the Gigabyte GTX 660 oc 2gb
P.s
I was read ALL the 19 Pages and i dont find solution ...

For the HDMI: The solution is to look at the HDMI audio section where Toleda explains how to enable HDMI audio for Nvidia.

Oh yes, and for those with 660Ti please let us keep this thread for 660 and not 660ti as these really are completely different cards, so no point in posting here.

Thanks.

This is the first IM hearing of using apples update..

My question is this..

do the drivers differ from the nvidia drivers?

Frankly I hope so.

Sure i got the gtx 660 to work with 8.2

but man is it choppy.

Im wondering if the gk106 dirver from nvidia works better on 8.1?

Or if this apple update fixes the choppyness of the gk106..

Im sure others have noticed what im talking about?

IE i get high fps but game play is still choppy.. choppier than the old 4850 i was using before.. this has to be a driver issue..

i really really really hoped the gk106 would be used in the new iMacs but man was i disappointed.. and laugh at radeon 7xxx support on 8.3

pls tell me buying my gtx 660 was not a huge mistake?

sorry for my post being all over the place. just kind of vomiting my thoughts.

thanks soundf for bringing this to my attention about the apple update.. i hadent caught that before...

can some one enlighten me... is the gk 106 used on some apple product? is it the mbp?
