So, after almost 4 years with my Dell XPS M1530, which I used as my first hackintosh, the on-board GPU is broken and the laptop is done. I saved a little money for that day to come to finally buy me a Mac. The budget was 1700€ and i wanted an iMac. With this budget i could afford the smallest 27" iMac if they are on discount. Apparently the build in graphics annoyed me a lot, because i also want my Computer to perform fast at graphic-intense Games (Windows). Just for fun i created a really exciting gaming PC for 1700€ and was shocked how much better it was. So i decided to slow the Gaming-Rig a little bit down a Budget of 800-1000€, but also perform better than the original iMac.

My first thought was that i no longer want an unstable Hackintosh, like my Dell. (I swapped the wifi-card, had a lot of trouble with many kexts and after every update of OSX the fun started all over...) With the help of tonymacs buyers guide i searched for the individual parts for my buils, which i want to explain why i chose them shortly:

CPU: 100€ less than the 4770k - nearly same Power, is more than enough for gaming
Board: Cheapest compatible Board with all ports i'll need and SLI-support (for future adding of second GPU)
GPU: Quietest card in idle, also good performance
Cooler: I always wanted to water-cool my rig - my first small steps ;)
Case: I wanted this case since 2010 when it came out, I love the industrial design and the HighAirFlow architecture.
Bluetooth: Same Chip as the 4.0 Stick in the Buyers Guide, but only 10€ in germany! Should work fine, found the hint here in the forum in dasdf's thread

Anything else should self be explaining - I tried to find a good balance between performance and price.

Installation

1. Installed with fresh 10.8.5, using Unibeast 2.1.1.
2. After first boot and user configuration i fired up Multibeast 5.5.2:

3. According to this thread i installed the nvidia driver to show up the GTX 760 properly. I also added the IGPEnabler, as wildwillow showed us here.

//edit:

Multi-Displays are working fine now, but i can't get any sound through the hdmi-cable to my 1080p tv.
Sound through HDMI now working, thanks to wildwillow!
1. Download the SSDT-1.aml from toledas link
2. Rename to SSDT.aml
3. Put the file into /Extra folder
4. Remove HDAEnabler1.kext from S/L/E
5. Install Alc892 with DSDT form Multibeast 5.5.2
6. Repair permissions with Diskutil
7. Restart and choose your connected HDMI-Output device in your audio settings (in my case LG TV, although the HDMI-cable is connected to a Yamaha AV-Reciever

I cannot control the Volume in Mac OS X, but thats no problem, the remote from the AV-Reciever is in the range.

What i also did was turning the fans in my Case to full-speed, because the Motherboard gave them only the minimum voltage (5V) because of the CPU-temps. With that low voltage the big 200mm Fans doesn't start rotating. At full speed the fans have 19dbA - so they are really quite --> no problem.

Get Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse working in Windows and OS X simultaneously (i will try wildwillows advice)
Followed this Guide for simultaniously working Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard in OS X and Windows:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-h...gic-trackpad-magic-mouse-bluetooth-setup.html

Next Up / Work in Progress:
- Chimera on USB --> Start-"Key" for Mac OS X without this Windows will fire up (Some security as of OS X will be contain my more private things like family photos)
This seems to be more complicated than i first thaught. I installed Chimera on an USB stick an i can boot from that to, but as soon as i unplug the stick, go into windows, and restart with the stick plugged in again, the boot order in the bios is messed up, the usb stick isn't at 1st anymore. I deactivated fast boot in bios, so i can go into the bios with my usb plug keyboard to switch the boot order when needed. This is not a final solution. I want to get rid of the plugged Keyboard.

- Mavericks! downloading it right now, will update OS X 10.8, after I did a backup ;)

- test some system definitions

to be continued...

Please feel free to comment, ask questions or to share your thoughts on this build with me!

Regards,

Fred aka Fa90

Congrats on your Haswell Build, how is it running for you?

Have you had a look at the HDMI Audio options here Haswell HDMI Audio

For a test I used the HDMI 8 series SSDT from toleda's guide. What I did was follow the guide. Downloaded the SSDT-1 from toleada's link in the thread. Renamed it SSDT.aml and put it my /Extra folder. I removed S/L/E HDAEnabler1.kext, re ran MultiBeast 5.5.2 and only selected Drivers>Audio>Realtek ALC8xx>With DSDT>ALC892. This gave me HDMI audio through my GT 640. If you would like to get HD4600 HDMI then follow the guide to the letter.

I don't use HDMI on my Haswell system but I'm willing to help testi for the sake of others that do.

Hope this helps.

Credit to toleda.

Hi wildwillow, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try when I'm at home :)

The machine runs beautiful, very stable, and ultra fast! And so are the OS'
I'm very pleased with this configuration and can really recommend this setup!

Since I'm using the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard I cannot access chimera in the boot menu, so I set the timeout to 1 second and also activated quiet boot, to have a clean start!

On the downside I cannot access to windows without plugin in a proper USB-keyboard.
How have others done this with a Bluetooth keyboard? Any ideas? It would be cool to have an USB stick, which I could plug in and then windows starts up, or the other way around OS X!

Edit: i just came up with the idea to install Chimera with my boot options on an USB stick, so Windows will Start if no stick is plugged in. With the stick plugged in osx should start!
Anything else is just configuration in the bios.

Glad it is running good for you. Using a bluetooth Keyboard on both Windows and Mac OS X was achieved before and here is a link on what to do. Dual Booting Windows 7 + Mac (Mountain Lion) with both Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse - Bluetooth Setup

thank you very much again wildwillow!

Sound through HDMI is working now like a charm, i will try if 5.1 works also, but stereo is more than enough! :)

i will give the bluetooth keyboard and mouse also a try, i haven't come that far to stumble over this problem so far, so thanks in advance! (only configured OS X so far ;) )

Another problem i have now is that after i shut down OS X the PC turns off and then after a few seconds starts again, like i had hit restart. I activated Ultra-Fast boot in the bios, maybe this is the Problem?

No problem, Glad you have your HDMI audio working. For the shut down problem try disabling WOL (wake on Lan) in the BIOS.

{Work-in-Progress} Fa90's Build: Core i5-4670k - GA-Z87x-D3H - 8GB DDR3-2800 - GTX 760

WOL disabled, shutdown works fine now!

I installed chimera with my boot flags on an small 2gb USB stick and enabled it as first boot device in bios, so with the stick plugged in OS X starts automatically. When I unplug the stick (I set the windows hdd to second boot device) windows is loading! So far, so good! But the other way around, if I plug the stick back again, the windows HDD is set to first boot device, the bios deleted the boot order, because the USB stick was removed!

Only if I start the bios again and sort the devices the USB stick is in first place again... Very annoying, because I want to get rid of the USB keyboard (Bluetooth keyboard isn't working before OS boot).

Any idea how I can solve this problem in the bios? I can't find any solution on the web, maybe I'm searching for the wrong keywords. Another idea would be to burn an image of the working USB stick to a blank cd and to use this as boot "key".

My suggestion would be instant menu in MultiBeast, this will give you the option to boot into either OS X or Windows, booting into windows is enabled by selecting the system reserved partition.

Thank you for your quick response wildwillow!

That was what I used when I had dual boot on my laptop, too. But I can't choose between the OS's in the instant menu with the bluetooth keyboard? That is why I thought it would be cool to choose with a physical thing at startup.
I don't want two keyboards on my desk ;)

Hi guy's,

I was designing my first build and I came to the same config of mobo-cpu but I wasn't sure on what Ram I should choose; Like u I have a couple of mobo-supported pieces but I was doubtful about to use it, so do u think that can be a problem using different Rams (instead of corsair in buyer's lists)??

Thanks
