This was my first hackintosh attempt. I decided to give it a try after learning my gaming computer was potentially compatible. This started it all for me. I would say I ran into all of the usual problems a newbie would run in to, and there were moments when I was incredibly frustrated. I have experience with Linux so not everything was unfamiliar though. Overall it was a really fun experience to dig in deep and learn some new things. I found troubleshooting is difficult at first, because sometimes you think you fix something with a certain method, and although it might work, its not always for the reason you think it is. For example, my first few times installing were really quite simple. Then I would break things on post install. Just because I got it right 10 times once, doesn't mean it will work right the 11th time you try. Its easy to change something without knowing, which makes you since you broke it with the target you are currently working on like fixing audio or graphics, but it might not be related. Everything in the end has a reason, but sometimes its not the reason you first think.
I also appreciate everyone on the forums and anyone who makes guides. They are invaluable. Some things still require a bit of digging, but its nice to know there are so many other people working on these things too.
Originally, this machine was built to be a gaming machine with windows only on it. I centered on the graphics card instead of CPU and ram. It was meant to be budget friendly as well. I also own a 2015 MacBook Pro Retina as well as a 2011 Mac Mini Server i7. I used my MacBook Pro for pretty much everything. I really love this computer, but it is difficult being attached to it as a main workstation. It keeps me tied down with things like USB hubs when it needs to be free to move. When I discovered the Hackintosh concept, I decided I didn't have anything to lose by loading Mac OS on my gaming computer. This would be convenient because it maximizes its use. I don't like the fact that all it did before was gaming. For home use I don't need anything extreme, but most of what I need is on Mac OS.
My first attempts to install were pretty non commendable. It was interesting though. I didn't want to commit to formatting a hard drive, so I thought to try and install on a USB 3.0 thumb drive I had kicking around instead (I had Linux in mind of course). Sure enough it worked. I was booting Mac OS off of a thumb drive. It was very slow to load, but after things were loaded into ram things really worked fine. This was enough to convince me to move forward, and even purchase a second ssd drive to handle the task correctly.
After getting Mac OS successfully loaded on the SSD, I decided that it wasn't enough because 256gb was an abundance for what I needed it to do for home use with my external drives. So i decided to re-partition and multi-boot the second SSD for linux mint alongside OS X. Now I have the computer set up for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS at the boot of clover.
Guide
All pretty standard for most things.
I used the standard guide on tonymacx86 for the most part. I dont remember all the guides I used for all the little things. But there was nothing all that different.
For iMessage I recommend this one - http://www.fitzweekly.com/2016/02/hackintosh-imessage-tutorial.html?m=1
Whats Working
Pretty much everything.
I will post further updates as well as pictures and benchmarks as soon as I get this finalized and settled in.

Whats Working
Pretty much everything.
- Intel HD 530 - This works with full acceleration and glitch free after applying the standard HD 530 patches.
- Nvidia GTX 1070 - Didn't work originally when I tried because the Pascal drivers were not available. I thought I was going to have to switch between on-board and discrete every time I switched to windows which was inconvenient. Surprise! Pascal Web Drivers are here!! (I wish I would have known before purchasing an offhand GTX 980 for my other project though LOL)
- HDMI Audio - This is not tested, but Im pretty sure its recognized and works.
- Onboard Ethernet - Working as normal with IntelMausiEthernet drivers. Use the latest kext with Kext Beast.
- Realtek Audio - Everything is recognized by Mac OS, but the motherboard has an issue itself so I cant test full functionality. It doesn't work in windows or Linux either, but is recognized.
- USB Audio - I have not taken it to studio yet for the full multitrack test, but so a simple usb audio codec is being recognized and used with no problems.
- USB 3.0 Ports - Works after MultiBeast Increase Port Limit Patch
- USB 2.0 Header - These work fine.
- iMessage - Working with the guide above. It has worked several times for me so there shouldn't be issues.
- Sleep/Wake - This did not work at first. I had to disable it in my power preferences. I tested it again randomly after finishing my Kaby Lake build and it worked. Not sure what I changed exactly but I can look into it if people are having problems with this.
- Other - I ordered a TP-Link n900 thinking it would work out of the box. However it doesnt fit because of the micro atx size. The GPU is in the way and it would restrict airflow anyway.
I will post further updates as well as pictures and benchmarks as soon as I get this finalized and settled in.
