*Just a note - I actually selected this as I wanted to use an even smaller case that I already owned, but after some measuring found that it would still be too tall, and ultimately chose the case noted below.

Already Owned

Crucial m4 128GB SSD - I had one of these SSD's laying around from another project, so I used that as my HDD:

Easy build - I wanted a more beefy "Mini" style build, so went with the small case and MiniITX board. The only thing that didn't work OOB was the audio, which was quickly fixed with the ALC8xx driver from MultiBeast.

The only issue I ran into other than Audio was that after installing MultiBeast, the NIC no longer worked. Fixed this by running MultiBeast again and adding the Realtek Gigabit Ethernet driver.

I decided not to add a CD/DVD drive since the only options with this case were slim drives, which I don't really care for, and I have a few external drives laying around if I ever need them. I also haven't added a storage drive. I've got lots of network storage, and really only need enough room on this box for the OS and Applications - mostly using it for XCode and the Adobe CS software (and some other various things I like for web development).

I used the DSDT for this board from the DSDT database here, and installed from a Lion (10.7.2) USB stick (Created with UniBeast from App Store retail dmg). I did attempt a 10.7.3 update, but found that it caused a permanent KP on boot. Since the install only took about 10 mins, I just wiped the drive and reinstalled fresh to 10.7.2.

Everything is now working as expected. Haven't tested the second Output on the HD 6850 yet, nor have I attempted to use the HD3000 on-chip graphics.

Here's a rundown of the options I selected in MultiBeast:
System Utilities > Repair Permissions
Drivers & Bootloaders > Kexts & Enablers > Audio: Realtek ALC8xx, Network: Realtek Gigabit.
Bootloaders > Chimera v1.7.0 r1394

That's all! I decided not to modify the Boot Screen option since everything is working, but if there's a good reason to do this anyway, I'd be glad to hear it!

I also just noticed the System Definitions section. I did not select this, and I see that the system is detected as a Mac Pro. I may create a backup image at some point and try to change this just for kicks (I'm assuming it's pretty harmless, but don't really know for sure).

Thanks so much for this information! I am building my first hackintosh as soon as the parts get here and I am basing mine off of the Mini recommended build as well, but I'm going straight by the books with the i3 and on-board graphics. Wish me luck! haha

Excellent! Good luck! :)

Should go pretty smoothly, this seems like an excellent board and it's been extremely stable with quite a bit of use so far.

I have high hopes. Do you have any advice for a wireless adapter? Unfortunately hardwired is kind of a pain in my current living situation. USB seems like the way to go with this board as there's only the one x16 and I don't think a pci-e x1 would work.. then it also limits my ability to add a video card in the future.

Unfortunately I can't point you to any specific card right off hand - but what I can say is that I've had pretty good luck with Atheros based cards. If you can find one in a USB format, I bet you'd be golden. I've had various makes/models work with little to no tweaking in several laptop setups that I've worked with (sadly I can't say the same for other components in said laptops).

It is actually something I've been thinking about for this rig, and I might do some research and see if I can pick one up. If I do, I'll be sure to report back the results.

Maybe someone else out there can weigh in on this one with some good advice?

I was actually looking at that same USB card that you posted, workmand. I may yet grab one of those, though I just picked up a couple of these guys:

They seem to have OS X drivers, though I didn't necessarily pick them up directly for my mini, but if it works, I might just stick with it. I have a couple of laptops that I want to use it with.

I'm actually liking the looks of stork's guide. Unfortunately my graphics card consumes both expansion slots in my case, and the only PCIE slot on this board, but now I'm considering it for another box that I've got - I might give that a go, and in fact I may already have the Apple card to use along with it.

I think I sense another project coming on :D

Yes, the reason I'm going to try this adapter is because of the OS X drivers. Having trouble installing OS X at the moment so the adapter can wait for now, I'll post here if I find it works.

Didn't you have to select AppleHDA Rollback also with Realtek ALC8xx to enable the audio?

Thanks

Aaron
