So I put my build together, did a fresh install of Lion and now everything works great. Sound was tricky, but I got it.

Files Needed:

1) Java installer for Mac 10.7
2) Mac OS X 10.7.1 Update
3) Mac OS X 10.7.3 Combo Update
4) MaLd0n's DSDT Auto-Patcher
5) 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg
6) Multibeast 4.2.1 or greater
7) rBoot CD (found in resources)
8) XMove (found in resources)
9) Mac OS X 10.7 Lion App (legally downloaded)

METHOD:

0) Change your BIOS settings:
1) Integrated Peripherals
a) SATA RAID/AHCI Mode: AHCI [default is IDE]
b) SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode: Enabled [default is Disabled]
c) Make sure USB Mouse & Keyboard is enabled
d) I disabled the serial and parallel port because I don't use them, but this shouldn't make a difference
2) Advanced BIOS Features
a) Change your boot priority so that your CD/DVD Drive is first and Hard Drive is second
b) Change the hard disk priority so that the drive you want to install Lion on is first
3) Power Management Setup
a) ACPI Suspend Type: S3(STR) [default is S3(STR)]
b) HPET Support: Enabled
c) HPET Mode: 64-bit mode [default is 32-bit mode]

1) Tonymacx86's rBoot + XMove USB Install Guide
--Follow Tonymacx86's guide for this.

1a) Create a folder on your new Lion USB installer and put the first 6 necessary files from above in it

1b) Burn rBoot onto a blank CD

2) Boot with rBoot using the boot flags "-v" and possibly "npci=0x2000" if you find you get stuck at PCI Configuration

3) Install
a) Java
b) Update to 10.7.1
c) Update to 10.7.3

4) Run MaLd0n's DSDT Auto-Patcher (keep DSDT.aml on desktop)

5) Run Multibeast
Select the following options:
1) UserDSDT
2) System Utilities (Repair Permission + Rebuild Caches)

##Kexts & Bootloaders##
3) Audio > Realtek ALC8xx > ALC8xxHDA
4) Disk > IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector

> 3rdParty SATA
5) Graphics > NVIDIA Fermi OpenCL Enabler 10.7.0 / 10.7.1 (if you have a Fermi card)
6) Miscellaneous > USB 3.0 - NEC/Renasas and Etron (if you decide to use a USB 3.0 PCI-e x1 controller card)
7) Network > Lnx2Mac's RealtekRTL81xx Ethernet

##Customization##
8) Boot Options > 64-bit Apple Boot Screen
> PCI Root ID Fix
> Instant Menu
> Generate CPU States
> PCI Configuration Fix
> Use KernelCache
9) System Definitions > Mac Pro > MacPro 3,1

##Other##
10) OSx86 Software
11) Extension Migration Tool

6) Run the 10.6.2AppleHDAInstaller.pkg

7) Reboot, but this time remove the rBoot cd and boot off your hard drive.

Re: SUCCESS: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) Install Guide

Hey... nice post. My board is similar to yours, so I thought I'd give your guide a try.

It worked pretty well, although not for audio. Probably because my chipset is ALC888 rather than a ALC889a. Oh well, I'll keep looking for a solution for that.

Anyway, I was really wondering why you chose the kexts/bootloaders/customizations that are on your list. What do they fix or do for your hackintosh? I'm not trying to challenge anything you did, just trying to learn.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm glad to hear you have had mostly success with this board. It's too bad the audio is not working. You might want to try the method Tonymac recommends in his Multibeast installation guide.

I have no problem informing you on why I chose what I chose.

##Kexts & Bootloaders##
3) Audio > Realtek ALC8xx > ALC8xxHDA

I found that if I chose this and ran the legacy installer that my audio would work.

4) Disk > IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector

This makes my SATA drives appear as Internal drives instead of external. I am not sure exactly why this happens, but this is what I was recommended.

> 3rdParty eSATA
> 3rdParty SATA

I think these are what give me full support for my eSATA and SATA ports on my motherboard. Not 100% about that though, so if there is someone that reads this and can better explain I would love to hear.

5) Graphics > NVIDIA Fermi OpenCL Enabler 10.7.0 / 10.7.1 (if you have a Fermi card)

I chose this because I have the an EVGA GTX460 SC graphics card. I believe this adds better graphics support. Some genius who knows a lot more about this stuff than me changed some stock NVIDIA drivers made for certain cards into an installer that can be used universally.

6) Miscellaneous > USB 3.0 - NEC/Renasas and Etron (if you decide to use a USB 3.0 PCI-e x1 controller card)

If you want USB 3.0 compatability than you need this kext.

7) Network > Lnx2Mac's RealtekRTL81xx Ethernet

Lnx2Mac was awesome enough to put this nearly universal realteak kext. It is for the on-board gigabit ethernet.

##Customization##
8) Boot Options > 64-bit Apple Boot Screen (For 64-bit kernel, this is what Lion was designed for)
> PCI Root ID Fix (This is something I need to have as a permanent boot flag so that I can use FaceTime. It's kind of a fix)
> Instant Menu (This gives me the choice to choose between my dual-boot setup instead of having Chameleon/Chimera countdown and auto-load a particular partition)
> Generate CPU States (This enables better processor performance [I think])
> PCI Configuration Fix (Fixes a compatabilty issue with some graphics cards--mine in particular)
> Use KernelCache (Saves the booted kernel in cache to make boot times faster)
9) System Definitions > Mac Pro > MacPro 3,1 (I found that this one the set of system definitions that made my computer run well and didn't cause a kernel panic at boot)

I hope that answered your questions well.

Re: SUCCESS: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) Install Guide

Inmike09, Thanks for posting this guide!!!!

I have successfully upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard following your steps. Everything works except for one, very important part: Ethernet!

I did install Realtek RTL81xx_0_90.pkg, the system report does show the ethernet controller as present and shows kext: RealtekRTL81xx.kext

but still, sfari reports no connection to internet. When I boot into my Snow Leopard, the connection works, so I know physically it is connected.

Please let me know your thoughts on this..

Mike.

Re: SUCCESS: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) Install Guide

Thanks! I'm glad to hear everything is working except your ethernet.. The one thing I will say about the ethernet is you might want to try Lnx2Mac's ethernet kext from Multibeast. He put together an amazing kext that works for all Realtek81xx chips. If you were to do this, you should remove the Realtek kext you have installed by

1) Deleting it from your System/Library/Extensions folder
2) Run Multibeast System Utilities and the Lnx2Mac kext
3) Reboot

Hopefully this does the trick if the other things don't work.

But, if you want to try something else then I would suggest removing all your network options in system preferences (i.e. wifi, ethernet, and bluetooth) and reboot. Then re-add them via the same place as before and see if that works.

If that doesn't work, I would even suggest making sure your org.chameleon.boot.plist has the EthernetBuiltIn=Yes in it. If not, add it.

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>

Good luck!

Re: SUCCESS: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) Install Guide

Congrats on the build. I have a similar build on 10.7.2 (same mobo) but just noticed some odd audio issues today. Generally speaking, audio is working, but I lost a couple features that worked with the same system on SL.

First one is that the front audio-in/mic jack is not working. It doesn't show up as an input option.

Second one is that the audio switching isn't automatic before. In SL, when a headphone was plugged in the front, the audio output would automatically switch to it.

Can you check to see if these items are working for you? If so, then I'll try and replicate your audio/DSDT config.

Thanks!

-Joe

Joe,

I am glad to hear you have had success with this build.

The first problem you are having sounds like it might be a hardware thing. You said it worked in Snow Leopard, but now that you have Lion it no longer works? To determine whether it is a hardware issue, I would suggest creating a new Snow Leopard installation on a new partition to check if the speaker jack still works.

The second issue about have to switch audio output devices in Lion is something I have encountered on all of my Lion builds. I am not sure if it is new to Lion or if it something that is a product of these builds being hackintoshes.

I would love to hear what you make of the first problem. Good luck!

Re: SUCCESS: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) Install Guide

I am trying to get as close as a system as possible to original poster. Would this hardware work?

I either have this stuff, or I can get it cheap. Case I am not all that worried about, but would like a firewire port on the front, if possible? Help!!! I am lost right now.

Possible build:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev. 1.1
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB
Mushkin DDR2 800 - [email protected]
LG DVD-RW
hard drive (what ever I have laying around)

Case and Video Card??? <---help of these two would be great!

Ok, I think the system you have thus far is awesome. For the case you I chose the Cooler Master Elite 430 (I think that is the number). For the video card I would recommend most Nvidia chipsets (preferably ones that Tonymacx86's forum users chose). A safe bet is the EVGA GTX 460 SC (my most recent one), but in past build I've had the Gigabyte GT 220 1 GB Card or the MSI Twin Frozr GTS 250 1 GB Card. This all depends on your budget.

Good luck with your build and please feel free to ask as many questions as you can think of.
