Stork's Gene Build > ASUS MAXIMUS VIII GENE Z170 - i5-6600K - MSI Vega 56

Status
Not open for further replies.
First of all I would like to thank Stork for an excellent build guide!

I had some problems at first although I followed your guide to the letter. My hardware differs slightly from yours so I though that must be the reason why my installation crashed every time around 50% mark.
I did all the usual - redid the USB couple of times on different machines, tried all the possible flag combos, but always I got kernel panic at the same point - until I clocked down my memory from 2666 -> 2600 in Bios. After that everything went through like a charm. Maybe something to mention to folks running faster DDR4. iMac (or Macs in general?) supports it up to 2132MHz anyways, right?

Now to my actual question:

Everything is running perfect - except sleep which causes kernel panic.
I'll attach my crash log below, maybe you could have a look at it and see if you can make heads or tails of it.

My build:

i5-6600k
EVGA GTX 970 OC
Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666 2x16Gb
Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666 2x8Gb

First of all I would like to thank Stork for an excellent build guide!

Yep, I'm using CodecCommander.
I'll post my Kernel Panic log to Sierra Desktop Support.

Did sleep worked on your build out-of-the-box? No tinkering required?

Sleep is working after I performed the installation procedures as outlined in Post #1's What Works section.

Right, so CodexCommander solved this for you. Funny thing and the reason I was asking is that I followed your guide and have a same hardware - maybe you had forgotten to mention something you did. Like down clocking your memory which was crucial to even get the installation done.

Nope. I didn't have to do anything like that. When I do an install, I document each step I take in a notebook. I do this mainly as part a debugging process for the tonymacx86 beta software. So, my steps, which are documented in the build description post, are what I did to have a successful system.

Didn't you mention down clocking your memory at post #133? For me that was a deal breaker - couldn't install before I did that in Bios.

That, as it turned out, was for an earlier version of the BIOS. The latest version has no issues with using X.M.P.

Ah, I see. Well I've updated my bios as well per your instructions. Do you have any tip how do I start troubleshooting this sleep--> Kernel Panic problem.

Ah, forgot to mention. Initially the problem was the KP happened immediately after system going to sleep. This morning I tinkered with Darkwake and setting that to 8 enables my system to go to sleep without crashing for couple of minutes before KP.

UPDATE: Now I've got rid of Kernel Panics but the machine wakes up immediately after it goes to sleep.
This is what I dug from the logs the moment it wakes up:
Code:
prevent idle sleep list: IODisplayWrangler+ (1)
