If you're ready to spend that much - just trade Dell UP2414Q to SST U2415Q, you will get your trouble free 4K@60Hz
Seems to be the most painless way out.
I have the up3214q actually and I am really used to the 32 inch now, also the u2415q is no ultrasharp monitor. So selling this monitor is not really an option. But since I read that the R9 290x is kind off supported by mac natively, should this card give 60hz at 4K?

Well im still trying the same with my 40:" LGUB8000 tv paired with a gtx 970
No is the answer. Still cant get the proper scaling menu to appear and cant get past 4k at 30hz. I also tried an AMD R9 280x card with similar results. I was able to get it to scale properly at 31hz. Not worth it for the extra 1hz however so I returned the card. Im using my set as a pc now with windows10 at 4k 60hz and its stunning. I event had a brief chat with the maker of switchrezx and he couldn't sort it either. Talked to nvidia, same deal no dice. We need a genius or a miracle.

I am however digging windows10

I seem to have stumbled on something that could help. If you want 4k 60hz over HDMI 2.0 4:4:4 on 10.10.3, here is the recipe that worked for me:

  • GTX 970 with Nvidia web drivers
  • Get a DVI-D to HDMI cable. This is the one I'm using.
  • Install Display Menu
  • Install SwitchResX
  • Create a custom resolution in switchresx of 3840x2160 60Hz
  • Reboot, then use Display Menu to choose the new resolution.

I have no idea why this works, but it does perfectly. I'm using a Samsung Curved 6700 and it's quite amazing. It does not work with a HDMI cable, but the DVI D to HDMI cable seems to be the magic component.

Edit: Because this requires actually ordering a cable, I thought I would post a shot of it actually working. It is, for sure, 60Hz and 4:4:4. I worked with a the Seiki 39" for a while as my monitor and know the painful difference between 30Hz and 60Hz.

I have a Dell P2715Q monitor and a R9 280X connected via DP. When I boot my Hackintosh, first it gives me blurry 2560x1440 resolution @60Hz (not 4K). Once I connect an HDMI cable as well (so DP+HDMI at the same time), suddenly it gives me 4K @60Hz. The resolution is 3840x2160 and I can see the scaling options in system preferences.

I have MacPro 6,1 SMBIOS.

This is reaaaally weird...

Oh man, if this works I love you. I have a 40" 6700 and the 30HZ is bugging my eyes out. Cable ordered and will be here Sunday. I will shout praises for you till the end of times. I love the resolution and have named my Samsung my 4th child. Thanks!

@skaughty5 Why does your screenshot say "@60P" ? Isn't it supposed to
say @60Hz ? Do you get any kind of audio output via the DVI-D to HDMI
connection ?

I can't download Display Menu because of the hackintosh+app store problem.
Is there an alternative to Display Menu?

Also when creating a new resolution in SwitchResX it constantly says "not installed".

Any suggestions?

First attempt failed.

Ill have to give this a run tomorrow.
