Lenovo Thinkcentre M83. Work In Progress.

*** UPDATE *** Working flawless on 10.11 with AMD R9-280x

*** UPDATE *** Working fine on 10.10.5

Hello.

I just catch a deal on ebay for this machine (Only 295€)

Lenovo M83
Q85 Express Chipset
Haswell i5 4670 CPU
HD Graphics 4600
NOW AMD R9 280x
8GB DDR3 1600
Intel SSD 180GB

ALL WORKS!! This works like a real mac!! Sleep works flawless!!

As of now:

- No sound (yet). ALC662 / 283 chipset on my machine, still not sure. No big deal since i was not planning to use it anyway, but would be nice to have it working.
-Sound: Works with voodoohda, but im not using it anyway so i disabled it. I've seen some info on insanely mac about patching AppleHDA.kext to natively support this codec, but i will not spend more time on this. Also, sound is the less of the worries nowadays, you can get the same quality out of any cheap dac out there.
- Graphics: Intel HD4600 is detected with 7mb, and speed is very bad...
- Graphics: Working nice thanks to this post.
- Ethernet E1000e works nice, but BE CAREFULL, since for some reason my card became picky with the network cable... it was not getting any working ip adress until i changed the cable. (was using a cheap one i had working on windows), once i placed a CAT5e one, it started to work.
- You have to patch IOACPI... in order to get TRIM enabled. (i used multibeast).

Checklist:
**********************************
- Boots: Works (Clover)
- Sound: Works(VoodooHDA) / USB SOUND WORKS
- Network: Works (Intel E1000e.kext, currently v 2.4)
- Graphics: Works
- Memory: Works
- CPU: Works, geekbench score is the same as in windows.
- Sleep, restart, shutdown: Works
- Speedstep, power management: Works Including turbo and intermediate states.
- Temperatures: Very low, high 20s to low 30's.
- Noise: Ultra quiet. (Noiseless under the desk). You HAVE to tweak the thermal behaviour of the machine in bios in order to make it this quiet. Factory setting is "thermal priority" instead of "acoustic", so it makes a bit of noise. You can safely turn this to "acoustic", temps are very low.

Console log (weird messages to fix)

- Awaiting for checklist to complete.

- Bought this system NEW in ebay for 295€. Quite a nice deal.
- Unibeast not working
- Clover works

2014/04/10
- Graphics now works
- USB sound works from USB3 and USB2
- SURPRISE!! fixing Graphics also made sleep work... Sleeps fast and wakes up fast.
- Updated FakeSMC to v 6.4, installed HWmonitor, speedstep and temps are working.

2014/04/11
- Tried VoodooHDA to see if i can make sound work without patching anything, it works, not tried much because im not using integrated sound. Uninstalled it and disabled sound on bios.
- Machine is fully functional.
- Will post after a week working with it.

2015/10/14
- Updated to El Capitán through the App Store Installer. Flawless. Now using ATI 280x

Working 100% and using it as my main machine now.

can you please describe the bios settings for the M83 and post your clover EFI folder including config files and kexts used?

Been out of here for long. For the record.

Installation on 10.10.2 went as smooth as it can go. Still using Clover. With the default guide here at Tony Mac, the machine has everything working except sound, which I don't need, but I'll probably try to make it work.

Only things I've done different is to download the most current version of the kept specified by the guide.

Easy to find where by Google.

Forgot to mention. Now I have a nvidia gtx750ti.

Same applies to Thinkcentre M73 with Clover (almost identical hardware)

Intel H81 Express Chipset

It uses Realtek RTL8111GN, so used Realtek RTL8111/8168 Kext v 1.2.3

Audio works with VoodooHDA 2.8.2 kext from this post:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/152387-halp-no-audio-alc662-yosemite.html
But it is no longer available there, so attached it here

but this could also be an option to try:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/148525-x99-noise-audio-voodoohda.html

Another audio option could be (but have not tried, as previous worked for me):
ALC662 Patched AppleHDA Version 2.6.0f2

Using HD 4400 (i3-4130) 8086:0412, so the solutions were:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...tel-hd4200-hd4400-hd4600-mobile-yosemite.html

https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Fake-PCI-ID

WoL works from power OFF state (something that I could not get working on my previous builds)

All works perfect with 10.10.5 update (and attached kexts)

sebus

edit:

Using Fresco FL1009 based ORICO PFU3-2P USB3 card, which works OOB
Only issue I have is the fact that this PCI-Express card gets "lost" after coming out of sleep.
So whatever is attached to it no longer works.
Only "solution" is reboot

Good to know, i was wondering if the lower models would do as good.

Updated to El Capitan with AMD R9-280x, all went flawless

Thanks, good to know that it works well

Which Radeon did you get?

M73 has at most:
Slot 1: Low Profile, PCIe 3.0 x16 (40w max)
