Progress! Sort of... Breaking this into a new thread, as it seems like a slightly different cascade of problems than everyone else.

1. Garbled text with a "prohibited" sign on boot. This happens whether I'm using IGFX (onboard Intel graphics) or the 650TI BOOST. At this point, I'm convinced that the video card is not the root of this problem.
*I didn't notice problem 3. below because everything was garbled. When I finally realized that was coming up, I noticed issue 2 (which I think is the cause of issue 3 and ultimately the cause of issue 1 - the "stop" sign).
**I'm not so worried about this for now... hopefully it fixes itself when the other issues are resolved. Also, the IGFX boot gets all crazy when I have my 4k monitor plugged in - had to switch to my 1080p TV to try IGFX booting.

2. "createports: ports limit reached" message for USB. This happens whether or not I have my USB devices plugged in. I think this means that Clover is deciding NOT to load any of my USB devices.

3. "Still waiting on root device" is the last line that appears when the "prohibited" sign comes up. I think this is what the prohibited sign is saying: basically it can't find the USB boot device. I might be wrong, but this is currently my working assumption.

SO: if I can fix the USB issue on boot, then I should be able to get into the El Capitan installer. Now I just have to figure out how to fix the USB port limit issue.

In addition to everything below, I've tried the following:
-Booting using IGFX or 650TI BOOST
-Booting with USBLegacyOff=yes
-Booting with ONLY the thumbdrive plugged in (I unplug the keyboard as soon as I hit "ENTER" to start the Clover boot process)
-When sitting at the "Still waiting for root device" error, plugging the thumbdrive into EVERY usb port and waiting a few minutes each (people in other forums have reported successful booting by trying other USB ports)

Does anyone have any quick fixes for the USB issue? I see a few options and will try them out, so would appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm receiving the "Prohibited" sign when attempting to boot into the El Capitan installer. It doesn't seem like the cause of my issue is the same as what is listed.

I'm running the following successfully in 10.9 using Chimera:
i7-4770k
Gigabyte z87x-ud3h
NVidia GTX 650TI BOOST
16GB RAM (2x8GB)
Seiki 39" 4k TV (used as a monitor, but only has HDMI inputs)

I've tried multiple combinations of the following boot flags:
safe mode
npci=0x2000
rootless=0
cpus=1
nv_disable=1
disabled or enabled the intel gfx injector (with IGFX enabled or disabled in BIOS)
disabled or enabled the nvidia injector
etc

I've tried installing and customizing the Clover EFI partition on the USB stick (changes to config.plist, kexts, etc), but no luck (I've since wiped the USB and started over with a clean version of the Unibeast 6 install).

I've tried booting with everything unplugged except: keyboard, USB thumbdrive (with the Unibeast installer/clover on it), ethernet, and monitor. I've tried booting with all of my peripherals connected. No change.

When booting normally, the boot eventually stops at the prohibited sign. When booting verbose, the prohibited sign appears and most of the text on the screen becomes garbled. At this point, I suspect there's a graphics card incompatibility. Does anyone have a working El Capitan system with a 650TI BOOST? or any nvidia card with a Kepler chip? If so, how were you able to get the system to fully boot?

Appreciate any help. Already have spent days trying to figure this out. I hope I won't need to buy another video card..

"Prohibited" or "Stop" sign when booting USB installer (Also "waiting on root device" and "createports: ports limit reached")

Your problem is that your USB ports are not detected on El Capitan. The installer loses connection to your USB stick, which is why it ends with "Still waiting for root device" and throws the prohibited sign. The root device is your USB installer. Has nothing to do with graphics cards.

How do you fix this? I don't know. Right now USB support is a complete mess in El Capitan.

"Prohibited" or "Stop" sign when booting USB installer (Also "waiting on root device" and "createports: ports limit reached")

It was a USB issue. I've partially fixed the problem by following advice in this thread. Seems like it might be similar to Rehabman's FixPCIID, but maybe easier to understand.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/to...full-speed-usb-series-89-keeping-vanilla-sle/

I copied the 8 series kext into the EFI/Clover/Kexts/10.11 folder (in the EFI partition) and most of my USB started working. From there I was able to install and get running. Next up, I'll need to see about modifying the kext to get all of my ports running correctly - that will be a separate project when I have time...

"Prohibited" or "Stop" sign when booting USB installer (Also "waiting on root device" and "createports: ports limit reached")

Got past the booting issue. installed on top of my mavericks install. had all kinds of random issues, from ethernet to usb3 to icloud login.

Finally decided to completely wipe my boot drive and start over. Now everything seems to be working, except I'm unable to login to the App store to download any of my apps.

At least I'm able to boot up now.

Make sure ethernet is en0 and wifi is en1 in system preferences/network.

Thanks - en0 fix worked for iCloud and App Store:
1. delete all interfaces in the Network Pane of the Control Panel
2. delete Networkinterfaces.plist from /Library/preferences/systemconfiguration
3. restart
4. add Ethernet interface in the Network control panel pane

Also realized that USB3 was totally hosed. Fixed the USB issues following this guide:

now i just have to figure out why Messages isn't sending/receiving messages.

btw, anyone know how to update the thread to read "solved"? not that it really matters, i suppose

I think you can just hit "Edit" at the bottom of the first post and change the title in the top "Title" field of the edit screen.

@ammulder - yea, tried doing that and the thread title hasn't changed. just the title of that first post. oh well, no biggie.

Also, iMessages randomly started working. So there's that. I think everything is a-ok after a clean install and using the patched .aml from the linked thread.

Hi i had a good working installation of El Capitan 10.11.5, everything was fine but i had some shutdown issues. So as my hackintosh wouldn´t shut down i figured out that i would like to try the "fix shutdown" in config.plist. I added that through clover Configurator and restarted.

After that my hackintosh got prohibit sign on every boot. I get through clover, choose partition to boot up with, it loads half way and then i get prohibit sign. I have a Carbon Copy Cloner of my working OSX and thought i´ll fix it with booting up with unibeast using my USB boot and then recover the disk. But i get prohibit sign as well when i´m booting from the USB. So I unhooked my drives and tried booting up only with the bootable usb, but i get the same problem. I started thinking something was wrong in bios, i flashed bios and tryed the same, then i get some text over the apple logo and my hackintosh restarts. I can´t boot anythig now, and i can´t understand why i get the same problem when i´m booting without the Efi drive hooked, the config.plist should only be installed there right?

I have tried boot flags cpus=1, dart=0, -x, -F.

I´m attaching a picture of the text i get when i boot up only with the usb drive, and a picture of verbos booting from my OSX drive.

Hope i can get help as soon as possible.
