Hopefully this is what you meant by my boot log. If not just tell me what you're looking for

DSMOS has arrived so check that you've used the correct EFI injection. (device-properties). GE should be No in the boot.plist.

I'm so new at this that I can't simply get my laptop to start from USB. I was about to install w8 before I read this thread, so I updated firmware... could this be the problem?

Updating your firmware won't make it so you can't boot from a USB. Assuming you made the USB correctly, go to your BIOS and make sure Legacy USB is on (I think that's the setting). Just read the description and it will tell you what it does. You want the one that allows you to boot from a USB. Exit out and press escape at the boot screen. That should take you to a screen where you can choose what device to boot from.

I attach screenshots from my BIOS configuration. I'm really lost and have tried a lot of configurations, but nothing seems to work, can someone help me? PLEASE !!

could you provide more detail on how you got USB3.0 speeds working? I have a different laptop but it's the same 8086 1e31 and I can't get it to work

Hey, I'm trying to change the EFI string like you recommended. I'm following this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114349-how-to-ethernet-efi-strings-device-properties/
When I get to the command 'gfxutil -i xml -o hex ethernet.plist ethernet.hex' I get the output 'invalid property list xml inputfile "ethernet.plist"!'. Sorry I don't know my way around mac very well. Do you have skype or something like that where we can reply faster?

Why are you playing with ethernet? Your problem is the IGPU doesn't see the display. I set the table as 1660004. Yours won't be any different. Set GE=No and it will work.

3.0 always worked.
