Radeon HD 8490 (on Sierra)

Hello everyone

I found a "brand new" (as in "never really used by anyone for now") low-end Radeon HD8490 laying around at work (1GB DDR3, max 2560 x 1600 via DVI-I or DP).

I would like to use it on an old rig that only supports FHD for now via iGPU. I would like to run OSX 10.12 and possibly upgrade later to 10.13... The card works flawlessly on Windows10 x64.

I usually use Nvidia GPUs on my hackintoshes, mostly for convenience/wide support.

Would it be too much of a hassle to try to make this card work in a hack? I am currently not familiar with stuff like kext injection, framebuffers, device IDs and whatnot... But I like to learn.

This could be my first step in the world of hackintosh with AMD GPUs, but maybe this card isn't a smart choice as a 1st trial...

I would feel a little ashamed to put this card back in the drawer where it as been left unused for quite some time now... I don't like to waste, except my time

Let me know what you think.
Any advice is obviously welcome.

Seems to be rebranded from HD6400 or HD7400 series, check your device ID from AMD6000Controller.kext, if ID not native supported, try inject Fake ID 0x67791002 from config.plist, may work.

Some AMD GPU may have colour flickering issue from 10.12.x up, need change pixel depth from ARGB2101010 to ARGB8888.

can you please elaborate?

Is this done in clover configurator as well?

Need some help I have a hp 6200 in which I installed hackintosh on. It works great except my video driver, I have a 8490 and I can’t get it to work ? Any ideas ???
