R9 390x Yosemite working?

That's great to hear!

Do you or anybody else think that this card will work OOB with Yosemite 10.10.5?

..and if so, do you think a pair of GPU's would work?

I've just upgraded to MSI 390X Gaming (Twin Frozr V) - my 7870 died - and:
  • Neither 10.10.5 nor 10.11.0 would not boot with 2 displays (both DVI) plugged in
  • 10.10.5 gets stuck just before login with beachball spinning on black screen
  • 10.11 is pretty much the same, minus beachball
  • ATI inject in Clover results in no signal on both screens (tested 10.10.5 only), regardless of frame buffer selected
  • With 1 display plugged in 10.10.5 would boot up, but with heavy (average 1/sec) flicker, but it was good enough for me to run 10.11 update
  • With 1 display plugged in 10.11 boots up and works flawlessly OOB. Crashes the second I plug in 2nd display
  • it's enough for the 2nd display to be connected, even if it's off, to break stuff

I'm currently trying to get the 2nd display to work. So far I've found and tried:
  • enable intel integrated graphics, run it as primary and let osx pick the gpu as it boots up edit: seems to f*** up both Linux and Windows 10 for me
  • boot up with 1 display connected, sleep & connect 2nd, wake up. edit: does not work

Nsext step: ATI personality / framebuffers

I've just tried both ATI personalities available in AtiController8000.kext - no signal with both

i Have my 390x working with a msi gaming 5 and a core i7 4790k it worked OOB with radeon framebuffers on el capitan 390x twin frozr* also if u need any help i am here i can easily help u with hackintoshing with similar hardware as mine. BTW i used clover !

Wow thats great to hear! Have you ever run Cinebench R15 benchmark? I would LOVE to know the results. I have a 4790K and would love to use a 390X if the results are better than my 280X 3GB.

Thanks, Max

I bought a 390X 8GB. Would you be able to help me get it running? I would really appreciate it!! So far I'm only getting a black screen with El Capitan using Clover. My 280X works well.

noticed you are running a Firepro w9100. Any issues with that card? im looking to use the Firepro W7100, mainly for FCPX and Motion 5 for Video Editing.

Thanks.

Are you mad? To start what Mac has a 390x? You also linked to a article about 290x not 390x. So its not broken, its just not there yet. Wait for Apple to release a Mac with it.

AMD/ATI GFX have always been better in OSX then nVidia for OpenGL/OpenCL stuff. The only thing nVidia was good for was CUDA and most apps have since be optimized for OpenCL now due to the release of the Mac Pro 6,1.

FYI: AMD cards are cheaper.

I don't think FirePros have any advantage over usual consumer level cards in OS X.

I checked out webpage for the FirePro w7100/w9100 and they show a video where the card performs very well as an open cl for premier pro on Windows, handles 6k Red footage at full resolution. FCPX is an open Cl program, Apple says it requires an open CL video card with at least 1gb of memory. Davinci resolve has also been shown to utilize the FirePro w7100 in real time color correction and grading at up to 4K resolution. Seeing that this card performs great with the programs that I use, I would like to know if anyone has had success building a hackintosh with a FirePro w7100 card. Dual displays is also a goal. I have seen that the FirePro d300, d500, d700 are just rebrands of the w7100 and w9100. Input please.

thanks
