For some reason, the Processor name (12-Core Intel i7-12700K) is missing from my About This Mac screen. It is now only showing "3.6 Ghz" instead of "3.6 Ghz 12-Core Intel i7-12700K). It used to work in Ventura 13.4.1 (I did not update to 13.5.1/.2 or 13.6), but since updating to Sonoma Beta, I forgot to check until this evening and noticed that the processor name is no longer there.

My config.plust > NVRAM section has both revcpu and revcpuname entries but it's not showing up. The ProcessorType is 3841, which is correct. I also have the latest RestrictEvents.kext (1.1.2) and even tried 1.1.3 but to no avail.

For the life of me, I don't know what is happening. Maybe another set of eyes would be able to tell me what I am doing wrong.

Much appreciated!

I figured it out. Took me a while but I've learned a lot while researching for the resolution.

Due to the fact that I'm using RestrictEvents.kext, along with the boot-arg revpatch=sbvmm (to get notification when a Sonoma update is available), the revpatch=sbvmm is causing the name of the processor to disappear.

So just by adding the cpuname option to revpatch boot argument, I am able to display the processor name in Sonoma, just like it did in Ventura. Nothing else needs to change.

There is no EFI in this thread. You must be mistaken with another thread, though I already explained to you what you could try to fix the missing custom CPU name in the other thread.

Hi.

There are two other settings which can affect how the CPU name is displayed:

1) The System Definition you are using.

2) The setting for "ProcessorType" in the PlatformInfo section of config.plist.

There are certain defaults for ProcessorType and you should compare yours with other Z690-based systems. You can always try "0" which is a bit generic but often works. If this works, double-check power management afterwards.

:)

System definition what do you mean.so does anyone know what is causing this.

If anyone could help me sort this out I would appreciate I can upload the efi file if needed
The CPU name is entirely cosmetic and has no bearing on anything at all.
If your OCD compels you then this is how :

Read and follow the instructions.
