Pre Install Questions - Advice needed.

Greets to all of you.

I am building a gaming PC but want to have OSX installed to fool around on and learn how the mac os works. I have already bought the $35.00CDN OSX Snow Leopard and want to install it on my new build. This will be a three OS build. Ubuntu, OSX, Windows 7 ( for gaming of course! )

The new build consists of:
Asus P7P55D-E PRO ( this version has the SATA and USB 3 on it )
4gb of G.Skill Ripjaw RAM ( soon to be 8GB )
XFX Radeon 5850 XXX ( or 2 5770 in Crossfire mode )
Corsair 750W Modular PSU
Intel i5 650 overclocked to 4.5 GHz and Corsair H50 Watercooler
OCZ Agility 120GB ( One for now.....another one later on )
Western Digital 1TB Black series HDD
Case will be a corsair 800D when I can afford it

Now I see that you have a guide for the P7P55D but none for the E version...not a big deal as I am sure that it will work either way. However my concerns are with my video card. Will it work? If I go with the 2 5770 in crossfire will it also work?

I appreciate any help that you can give to me regarding this project.

Ok, well the ATI 5xxx cards don't work in OS X. You'll not be able to get it running as of 10.6.2. Maybe later, but who knows- might want to get a cheap nVidia card for now.

Also, do yourself a favor and get the i5 750 or i7 860- they are MUCH better processors, and fully OS X supported, as Apple has used them in the latest iMacs The rest looks good.

And if you're looking for better support here, get a Gigabyte board.

Well too late then. I already have the Asus board and the CPU.

However I have not got the Video card YET.....so there is still help here.

Sorry but will SLI/Crossfire work with OSX?

It's probably easier to stick with nVidia for the graphics card; there's a lot more support for those as opposed to ATI.

SLI/crossfire aren't supported by OS X, so I wouldn't put those into consideration for what video card to get.

A 9800 GT would work just fine - you can always upgrade the card to something more powerful in the future.

The rumour is that the 5000-series will work either in 10.6.3 or as soon as Apple launches its refreshed notebooks/desktops later this year.
