pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

NZXT Kraken X62. w/o overclocking it is not powerfull enough for my demands. It's the same overclocking profile I used with my delidded 8700k. The faster profiles won't work. I have no experience in manual overclocking, so I choose the auto profiles. The only one that worked for me, ist the "office" profile.

I would suggest trying manual OC profiles. There are many overclocking guides available, a simple google search for Coffee Lake overclocking guides will reveal some good ones. I found that Asus auto overclocking settings tend to push the CPU voltages higher than is necessary which may be contributing to your high temperatures.

As I noted in the first post, I had been using a Dell DW1830 M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card. It had been working well but I wanted to use a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card from a real Mac. So, I ordered a BCM94360CS2 that is found in 2013-2017 MacBook Airs and an appropriate M.2 adaptor for it.

The BCM94360CS2 and M.2 adaptor is too tall to close the bracket casing that's included with the motherboard, but that's fine. Securing both to the bracket works fine. Because it's taller, one of the pigtail antennas will not be able to reach. I swapped it with one of the pigtails from the PCI-e adaptor I used for my previous build.

In my particular case, the height of the BCM94360CS2 and adaptor forced me to shave off a little bit of the rear case fan in the corner.

Reasons:
  • The BCM94360CS2 only requires 2 antennas vs the 3 required for the DW1830. This works out better with this motherboard because the bracket and backplate on this motherboard were designed for 2 antennas.
  • Guaranteed 100% compatibility.
  • No need for additional kexts or patches.
Advantages/Disadvantages:
  • The DW1830 was too wide to fit in to the bracket that came with the motherboard, so I just had it plugged in to the M.2 connector with nothing securing it.
  • There has been some reports that the DW1830 would be slow after sleep in macOS. I didn't test this.
  • The DW1830 is capable of 1300Mbps. The BCM94360CS2 is only capable of 867Mbps.
  • The BCM94360CS2 is true plug-n-play with macOS. The DW1830 required two kexts for Bluetooth to work.
Here are the items I purchased:

Edit (January 19, 2018):
As I noted above, one of the stock pigtail antennas will be too short to reach the BCM94360CS2. You can replace the pigtail with something like this:

I've been wanting to find a solution for my Hero 9 board and avoid using the Fenvi T919 which would take up a PCI slot. I am worried this card is too tall and wont' fit under the cover. Any thoughts?

You can use a DW1560. It requires a few kexts but works fine and is about the same size as the stock Wi-Fi card. I use a DW1560 in my laptop.

Please be aware that if you do end up using the DW1560 then unless you disable "Wake on LAN" you will experience very slow WiFi after you wakeup from sleep. Another fix for this is by using the Lilu plugin "AirportBrcmFixup" which will disable "Wake on Lan" on that card.

If you end up using Apple wireless card in the wifi M.2 slot you will have no such issue.

a tiny upgrade

Good day, I have build a Hackintosh with your Motherboard, a 9900k, 2tb Samsung EVO 970 2x 14TB Seagate, 32gb DDR4 3000 Ram and a RX480 8gb Refference blower design card i had laying arround inside of a old Modified Mac Pro 1.1 Case.

I build the USB key as normal and just copied your EFI files unchanged to the EFI Partitions. everything went super smooth and i have been able to setup the Hack working within 30 minutes. (Mac OS 10.13.6, Build 17G3025)...

After installing all my apps, icloud, etc... i now have the problem that the system freezes, i can move my mouse but nothing is reacting anymore this happens within the first minute after login to the OS. as a way to fix the error i fully reinstalled everything from the ground up again, everything went super smooth again but now with icloud and software installed it freezes again. I heavent read all the 400 pages of this thread, so please be kind to me if this has been treated before, but do you have any idea what could be the problem? i have not overclocked anything yet, BIOS is latest 1400ish version, i also updated clover to the latest build but problem remained identically. i have the feeling that it may has something to do with using the Foto App, trying to sychronize my cloud fotos to my build, but im not shure if this has something to do with it...

Thanks for your Help!

I don't know what can cause that.

Do you have a crash log?
Does it happen if you are not logged in to iCloud?
What apps are running when it crashes?

You can try updating FakeSMC, AppleALC, Lilu, and WhateverGreen too.
