How do you get to that ‘select boot device’ screen?

Ah… F12

It’s not even mentioned in the manual but it is visible in a picture of the screen


I’m still very curious though if both you guys @pastrychef and @scottkendall can get in the BIOS / Boot Selection without tapping.

@pastrychef, do you usually tap to begin with?

I press F8 to get to the BIOS boot menu. I like to use this method to boot in to Windows.

2. 9th Gen CPU IGPU fix – haven't done that either, but i have installed the NoVPAJpeg.kext – which allowed me to use preview again. So my question would be: Does the 9th Gen fix adress the preview issue? seems like a smoother way to go about it.

I don't know why your system is shutting down. That should not be happening. Sleep/wake works well for me. I use it all the time since I never shut my computer down.

Using NoVPAJpeg. Disables hardware acceleration. In my opinion, not the most ideal solution. It's best to configure IGPU properly.

In BIOS, enable IGPU. Set your RX 580 to be "primary display" if you have the option in BIOS.

I'm also curious what the USB fix fixes? I have not installed it (yet) since I didn't run into anything USB-y not working, so far. Didn't do much with USB though, obviously.

macOS only expects to see 15 USB ports from the motherboard chipset. If there are more, unexpected things can happen.

By not doing the proper USB fix, you rely on KextsToPatches which are considered to be a temporary workaround for the purpose of port discovery. These KextsToPatches often break with new macOS releases resulting, again, in unexpected issues.

Do yourself a favor and spend the 3 minutes to do the USB fix.

Please post your EFI folder and tell me how your IGPU is configured in BIOS.

Broken Preview is typically caused by improperly configured IGPU. Configure things correctly and there's no need for a workaround.
