Not overclocking, everything is set to kit on bios! Sorry what how do I find out the smbios? If you mean bios version it's F11.

Edit: The i5 SSDT may of been selected on Multibeast which overclocks it? Would this cause the issue?

Now I'm getting this new fault where it says -

P-state Stepper Error 18 at Step 2 in context 2 on CPU 3
P-state Stepper Error 18 at Step 2 in context 2 on CPU 2
P-state Stepper Error 18 at Step 2 in context 2 on CPU 1
P-state Stepper Error 18 at Step 2 in context 2 on CPU 0

What suggestions do you have for me guys? Safemode works fine

I believe this is a well known issue and the fix is to use one of the custom SSDTs that can be installed with MultiBeast. http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2012/05/1074-power-management-and-sandy-bridge.html

Do not use any of the other fixes in System Drivers or Boot Options. Perhaps delete the chimera plist file. The *only* file in my /Extra is the SSDT.aml.

I know this is an old thread but incase someone has the same problem- I was just having the same issue and found the solution(for my build) here- http://gallinar.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/update-from-moutain-lion-to-mavericks.html
Pretty much just changed the system definition from Mac Pro 3.1(default) to iMac 13.1 which solved the problem for me.
This was for updating to Mavericks. When first booting in to my system(booting via USB) I also had to boot into safe mode so I could run Multibeast, after that everything worked fine.
Hope this saves someone some time(took me ages to figure this out).

This solution worked fine for me, as well.
Thank you.

System definition set to iMac 13,1 worked for my Yosemite installation. Thanks for the fix!

It is also helpful for my build. Using iMac13,2 instead of MacPro3,1 solve the problem with stepping. But something strange is going on with my sound when I use configuration different from MacPro3,1. It randomly hiccups. Sometimes once every half hour, and sometimes several times per song. It is very annoying, especially at high volume.

Someone had similar problems?
