I have the same problem with the blue screen when I boot up the machine. I have figured out I can get the desktop to show up if I put the machine to sleep and wake it up, or I unplug the DVI cable and plug it back in, or turn off the monitor and turn it back on.
The system was booting fine with 1 stick of 2gb ram in it. As soon as I placed 3 sticks in this problem started occurring. It was getting late last night so I didn't have time to boot with 1 stick to confirm the memory was the cause.
After more testing I finally solved the issue by moving the DVI cable to the other DVI port. The system now boots correctly to the desktop.
