The graphics on this device are not currently supported.
But it will certainly be soon... and we will be fix soon....
Now that the October 30 Apple event is underway, there is a lot of chance that the Mac mini renewal, announced "not abandoned" at all, even by apple themselves, will be there, and the vega chip with Kaby lake intel processor seem to be the more eligible affordable integrated solution to get it out!

the best score under Mojave for the Intel Core i7-8809G compare to any platform( even Linux!)!

I am thinking about getting one of these as my first hackintosh. How much pain am I in for?

  • How confident are you guys that the AMD graphics will be supported sometime in the next yer?
  • Has anyone tried an eGPU?
  • Any compatibility differences between the base model and the VR?
I am deciding between this and a new Mac Mini. I'd prefer the NUC because of the upgradability , the GPU, and that it doesnt thermal throttle...but maybe not if I'll spend more time hunting down bugs than getting work done.

I've spent two weeks polishing Dell 9560 which probably has best guide I've seen for a mobile device (about complete compatibility)
If your hour costs more than 20$, then a Mac is likely cheaper than a hack.
Except when you're building overclocked $1200 box which outperforms $5K iMac Pro :)
Hack is so much more fun tho :)

I would say chances are pretty low. Vega M in MacBook is our only hope, and that being compatible someone likely would already report kexts from 10.14.2 beta are working with Nuc.

NUCs are good, but not perfect. My best experience is buying custom 4.5L miniATX case from CustomMod (NFC 4 MINI is another great option). For about $1000-$1500 you can put there Z370/Z390 with i7-8700K/i9-9900K and overclock them to Geekbench higher than $5000 iMac Pro. Unlike NUCs, with miniITX you have a lot of freedom about which motherboard/cpu/gpu you can use, and soldered wifi is never an issue. You can also buy 3L Case and use eGPU box (likely, next thing I'm gonna do)

It's funny you mention NFC, Josh has been my best friend since we were 10. Small world. We have been kicking the idea around the last few days actually...but I really want thunderbolt support and it seems that is very hard to get working. That is what drew me to the NUC seeing people are reporting it is working for them.

I have a Windows PC (that Josh built actually) that I use for the heavy lifting. I mostly want the NUC/Mini as a small secondary device to mount under a desk and use for apps that run better on MacOS.

He has so much better build quality, I wish he would use more powerful internal PSUs, like CustomMod does.
But I guess now when OWC is here, these cases are fading to past. My FLEX 4.5L barely fits my backpack width, and slim cases are too tall.

TB3 seems to be working fine on my XPS 9560 (including hot plug and sleep). People have just discovered how to get it working few days ago. Ordered ASRock Z370 Gaming-ITX/AC to test latest TB3 discoveries on it.

Well, he snapchatted me not an hour ago of a 400w PSU he's been working on. He was having to run two PCs off it to stress test it
