Hey all,
My first build, followed this site with recommended hardware for the CustoMac micro build (many thanks), and after a few build problems have Mavericks up and running, yay!
Problem is, as the build guide said I did the whole installation with 1 ram stick, with XMP set to profile1. When I added my second ram stick i would get freezes up to a couple of mins booting the system, which meant a hard restart. I then started getting kernal panics on boot. Remove the second ram stick and its fine everytime. If i add the second stick and disable XMP then it seems to work. Just did this and booted and have been using for about 15 mins fine. Only problem is now I have 1866 ram running at 1333.
Any help with how I can make the most of my ram speed without the freezing would be fantastic.
Build is
Gigabyte z87mx-d3h
Asus gtx 760
i5 4690k
Corsair vengence pro 1866 paired 8gb sticks
corsair RM 550
500gb samsung evo SSD
Mavericks 10.9.5
Any ideas?
EDIT currently running a memtest with http://osxdaily.com/2011/05/03/memtest-mac-ram-test/ all ok so far...
EDIT looking at http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-desktop-support/130034-help-install-getting-kernel-panic-2.html seems that maybe corsair was not the best choice.
EDIT Looking at the memory support list http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-z87mx-d3h.pdf mine (CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R) isnt on there, there are very similar ones (CMZ...) though. Did I buy the wrong ram
EDIT kernel panic has started on boot again, with XMP disabled and both sticks in. I installed my GPU at the same time i started seeing this issue. I just disabled the integrated graphics in the BIOS and seems to be booting ok, but could be coincidence...
