You know what you’re right about it being default because I forget at what point this happened but I think while I was trying to install on that SSD it said that the GUID Partition Table is either messed up or doesn’t exist. I’ll try to post a pic around 11:45pm PSTI think it is made GUID by default in High Sierra when extended journaled is chosen.
Make sure you are erasing the physical drive and not just the volume on the drive.

I think I'm just going to try to install Sierra instead of High Sierra.
