As per rules, please update your hardware profile:Updated the OP slightly to mesh better with the fact that I've made one of the purchases for this now. The base laptop is on the way! (Hurray!) Now for the replacement components…
Can this card be used in the WWAN slot on the G6? I was under the impression that this model and the previous G5 uses soldered wifi so the Intel card can't be removed.I've ordered the Broadcom BCM94360CSAX wireless card now, too, and
willhave updated my OP to reflect this (and where I got it) shortly. (Edit: Done.)

Also, have you considered using the Zbook with no GPU installed at all? The Zbook 15 G3 worked this way (you could just take out the MXM Quadro M1000 module) and everything worked fine, even the TB3 ports supported video out via the Intel GPU. It would probably be a far simpler way to get good battery life and screen brightness control.
Oh, and if your machine supports vPro, you may need to disable it in the bios / Intel ME option rom menu as on the previous Zbook 15 G3 it interfered with sleep / resume. Same with the TPM.
