Can this card be used in the WWAN slot on the G6? I was under the impression that this model and the previous G5 uses soldered wifi so the Intel card can't be removed.

Me, too, and neither model's maintenance and service guide includes a section on replacing the WLAN card. The specifications listed for both on HP's web site list all of these Intel WiFi/Bluetooth cards as using the m.2 interface, with
'CNVi' being in parentheses nearby. From what I understand of that interface (thanks in part to that link,) it's partly a specification for how to move parts of a wireless card that would typically be on it onto your computer's processor die; the rest stays on a separate card. I asked HP support about this, though, and they said its replaceable, too. If not, then I'll just disable it in BIOS and use another m.2 slot; I'm not
using any of them, after all. I don't know what kind of peculiarities or even error messages could result from sticking a WLAN card into a WWAN card slot, so I doubt I'll try that.

Also, have you considered using the Zbook with no GPU installed at all? The Zbook 15 G3 worked this way (you could just take out the MXM Quadro M1000 module) and everything worked fine, even the TB3 ports supported video out via the Intel GPU. It would probably be a far simpler way to get good battery life and screen brightness control.

Right, but I'd rather not tax the Intel iGPU too overly much as time goes on. I mostly game on my Switch and other Nintendo systems at the moment, but odds are that this may well change in the future. I also have some long overdue game development projects to work on that could benefit from a dedicated GPU; general-purpose parallel programming also piques my interest. On top of that, I have some interest in editing video in the future. I'm also known to access another account by sharing my screen through an SSH proxy (This works around the fact that you usually can't share your screen with yourself. Just don't try to log in to the account you're running the Screen Sharing client from, though, or else you'll start getting infinitely recursive screen tiling and have to Force Quit it.) Additionally, I anticipate running one or several virtual machines, each/all of which need a share of any spare graphics processing power left over after accounting for main system load. I
could even dabble in entry-level computer-aided design again sooner rather than later, though anything more than that would necessitate an eGPU solution. Given all this, I'd only disable the dedicated GPU as a last resort, and even then only for macOS, leaving it available for when I dual-booted into Windows, if possible. (Edit: I've never really heard of firmware platforms letting you have them load different settings depending on what partition you're booting into, though, so that's likely out.)

Oh, and if your machine supports vPro, you may need to disable it in the bios / Intel ME option rom menu as on the previous Zbook 15 G3 it interfered with sleep / resume. Same with the TPM.
