Motherboard Compatibility (In general & ASUS ROG MAXIMUS mITX)

Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone has any info on what exactly it is that makes one motherboard compatible and another not? Is it just trial and error or are there some specs that can be checked to determine somethings compatibility?

Also, I am wondering if anyone knows if the Asus ROG Maximus mITX motherboard is compatible?

I already have a build working with a full size ATX board (Gigabyte z170x ud5 th) But I would like to swap it out for a smaller form factor ITX board (that supports up to 64GB Memory).

Woops... looks like thats an mATX board... looks like there arent any intel micro atx boards that support 64gb
